About Manuela Romero
As a passionate violinist and dedicated music educator, my journey seamlessly weaves the artistry of the violin with a profound commitment to enriching the lives of my students. With a Master’s in Violin Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Bachelor’s in Violin Performance from the University of Arts in Venezuela, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my role.
Currently, I serve as a Classroom Instrumental Music Teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, making an impact across seven schools in North Philadelphia. From Edison High School to Julia de Burgos Elementary, I impart the joy of playing the violin, viola, cello, and bass to eager students. My teaching style transcends the traditional, creating a dynamic and engaging atmosphere where students not only learn but also discover the pure joy of making music together.
My commitment to music education extends beyond the classroom. As a Violin Faculty member at Arconet the Arts & Community Network, I provide private lessons to 15 violin students. These students not only receive personalized instruction but also have the unique opportunity to showcase their talents in recitals, adding a layer of performance experience that enriches their musical journey.
My experience as an Artist Year Resident at Edison High School in 2018-2019 stands as a testament to my dedication to shaping the next generation of musicians. I taught violin, viola, and cello to beginners and took the initiative to create the first Edison High School String Ensemble. Over 15 students participated in concerts and performances, showcasing their skills in various settings, from school events to recitals.
In addition to my work in Philadelphia, I served as a Teaching Artist at Play on Philly, where I conducted beginner string ensembles and served as a conductor for both middle and high school orchestras. My multifaceted approach to teaching, from the basics of instruments to conducting advanced orchestras, demonstrates my ability to connect with students at various levels of expertise.
My journey as a music educator extends beyond the physical classroom. My online teaching experience, coupled with my qualifications, brings a fresh perspective to the world of virtual music education. Leveraging my background as a music teacher in diverse settings, I engage students in interactive and innovative ways, ensuring that the digital platform is not a barrier but a gateway to musical exploration.
As a seasoned violinist, my performance background is as illustrious as my teaching career. From being the Concertmistress in the Young Symphony Orchestra of Caracas under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel to leading the Kahlo String Quartet in performances at Carnegie Hall, my musical journey reflects a commitment to excellence.
My honors and awards, including recognition at competitions and participation in prestigious programs like the Audience Engagement Intensive at Carnegie Hall, highlight my standing in the music community. My diverse soloist repertoire, ranging from Bruch’s G minor concerto to Paganini Caprices, showcases my versatility and mastery of the violin.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I generously volunteer my time and expertise. From taking Edison High School students to the Academy of Arts Annual Gala concert to offering free lessons for various youth orchestras, my commitment to community engagement is palpable. Audience Engagement interactive concerts with the Kahlo String Quartet in nursing homes and free performances in community libraries demonstrate my belief in the transformative power of music beyond traditional concert halls.
In conclusion, my journey as a violinist and music teacher is marked by a harmonious blend of expertise, passion, and a genuine desire to make music accessible to all. My online teaching endeavors, infused with fresh and engaging approaches, showcase my adaptability and dedication to ensuring that the love for music continues to resonate in the hearts of my students.
