About Luke Evans

About Me

Hi, I’m Luke Evans. Professional drummer, session musician, and passionate drum tutor based in Upper Heyford. With 18 years of playing experience and a genuine love for all styles of drumming, I offer mobile drum lessons across the local area, travelling directly to students’ homes and schools to make learning as easy and accessible as possible.

My Background & Qualifications

I hold an HND Level 5 in Drums from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) one of the UK’s leading music colleges – giving my teaching a strong academic foundation that sets it apart. But my experience doesn’t stop in the classroom. Over the course of my career I have performed at national and international festivals and functions, and built up professional studio session experience, working alongside other musicians in a recording environment. This means that when I teach, I bring real-world, industry-level knowledge into every lesson – not just theory from a textbook.

Lessons For Every Level

Whether you are a complete beginner picking up a pair of drumsticks for the very first time, or an experienced player looking to refine your technique and push your playing to the next level, I have the skills and experience to help you get there. I tailor every lesson to the individual student, taking into account your goals, learning style, and pace — because no two drummers are the same.

I have extensive experience teaching drums in both private one-to-one settings and within established music school environments, working with students of all ages and abilities. My lessons are structured, engaging, and always focused on real progress.

Graded Exams – Rockschool & Trinity

If working towards a recognised qualification is important to you, I have a strong track record of preparing students for graded drum examinations with both Rockschool and Trinity College London – two of the most respected music education frameworks in the UK. From your very first grade right through to the higher levels, I understand the syllabus and marking criteria inside out, giving you the best possible chance of achieving the result you deserve on exam day.

Safe, Professional & Fully Vetted

Your safety and peace of mind matter. I am fully DBS checked and have completed relevant safeguarding in music education training, meaning every lesson takes place in a safe, supportive, and professional environment. I am experienced in working within school settings and understand the importance of maintaining a structured and responsible approach — whether I am teaching a young beginner at home or delivering lessons within a school’s music programme.

Styles I Teach

I enjoy all styles of drumming and love passing that enthusiasm on to my students. From rock, pop, and funk to jazz, blues, and everything in between — lessons are always engaging, varied, and fun.

Cancelation & Rescheduling Policy

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

I understand that life can be unpredictable, and I always aim to be as fair and flexible as possible. However, as a professional tutor, my time is scheduled in advance and late cancellations directly affect my income. The following policy is in place to protect both parties and is in line with Musicians’ Union guidance for private music teachers.

Notice Period A minimum of 48 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule a lesson. This gives me a fair opportunity to offer your slot to another student.

Late Cancellations Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice will be charged at 50% of the lesson fee. This applies to all lessons regardless of the reason for cancellation.

No Shows If a student does not attend a lesson without any prior notice, the full lesson fee will be charged. The lesson will not be rescheduled.

Rescheduling Where 48 hours or more notice is given, I will always do my best to offer an alternative slot within the same week or the following week, subject to availability. Rescheduled lessons are offered as a courtesy and cannot be guaranteed.

Illness I understand that illness — particularly in children — can occur with little warning. In cases of genuine illness, I am happy to reschedule where possible, though this remains at my discretion. If I am unwell and unable to attend, your lesson will be rescheduled or refunded in full at no cost to you.

Termination of Lessons A minimum of two weeks written notice is required to end a regular lesson arrangement. This applies to both parties.

Payment Lessons are to be paid in advance or on the day of the lesson unless a monthly invoicing arrangement has been agreed in writing.
