About Lucy Leibold

I have 20 years of music teaching experience to all ages and levels in a variety of education settings from private to school instruction. I have worked in secondary schools across the central belt of Scotland and worked with individuals privately. I graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Music in Scotland with an endorsement in Techniques of Teaching and immediately began a number of coaching jobs in a one to one setting.

My lessons are tailored to your preference of musical style but always focus on developing strong technique, poise and performance skills and building confidence and connection between the mind and the voice or instrument. I also have a wealth of performance experience as both a singer and saxophonist working in all styles but with an real interest in Jazz music. My quartet has toured around Scotland and I love to encourage my students to perform and share their musical development with an audience. I am enthusiastic, fun and encouraging and I love to inspire my students by helping them to express themselves from day one on their music journey. My focus is not only on reading exercises and pieces one by one until we get to the end of the book. Instead, in my lessons I ask my students to play, to improvise, to express and to connect emotionally with the music no matter how basic or advanced their level is. My main goal as a teacher is to teach others how to teach themselves, providing direction and inspiration that helps them achieve their goals.

I can help you reach your goal of taking voice exams with Trinity, ABRSM or other exam boards or prepare for auditions and performances. I like to include theory, ear training, composition and harmony in my lessons. We also discuss and listen to other artists and about what we can learn from them. It’s also important in my lessons that students learn to control nerves and work with accompaniment, whether it’s a piano or a band. Whatever your goals may be, we can work together to achieve them! I have experience working with students from the UK, Thailand, India and Hong Kong. Through online lessons connecting can be extremely convenient and I encourage my students to record and send audios to me between lessons that I can evaluate and use as a basis for improving in the next lesson. I love to see my students progress and achieve their goals whether it’s going on to a career in music or singing at the next family party! Whatever it may be, I am happy to work with you and giving you expert guidance along the way.
