About Lior Solomons-Wise
Lior is a jazz pianist and award-winning composer/arranger with a First-Class Degree in Jazz Piano from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. His teaching centres on creating a space where students feel free to experiment, grow personally and musically, and enjoy the process of making music. Performing highlights include Ronnie Scott’s, the Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, the 606 Club, the Vortex Jazz Club and appearances at the EFG Jazz Festival. He leads his own quartet and is involved in a wide range of collaborative projects.
With years of experience teaching, Lior has developed an approach that nurtures both creativity and strong technical foundations. Lior specialises in teaching jazz piano, music theory and composition/arranging. His lessons are built around care, intention and genuine curiosity, empowering students to explore their own musical voice and develop a deep love for music. Students range from beginners to advanced, each receiving thoughtful, personalised guidance tailored to their interests and goals.
In 2023, Lior was awarded the Musicians’ Company Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition. His winning piece Mortar was performed by the Guildhall Jazz Orchestra. His creative work also includes arranging for singer-songwriter Hayden Thorpe (Wild Beasts) for performance at the Barbican’s Milton Court in 2025. Lior released his debut single Be Free in 2021 — a track blending jazz, R&B and folk influences, fully produced and performed by him. Lior works closely with songwriter Evelyn. ‘The Birds’ EP, recently released by Evelyn showcases Lior’s piano playing, arranging and producing.
All of this creative work feeds directly into Lior’s teaching, where he brings the same sense of curiosity, expression and care into each lesson. Above all, he aims to create lessons that feel supportive, engaging and full of possibility — a space where students can explore, grow and enjoy making music.
“I wholeheartedly recommend Lior as an exceptional piano teacher. Over the past year, he has not only taught my 15-year-old son the technical skills of piano, but also inspired in him a deep appreciation of music. He is extremely patient and takes great care to plan and personalise each lesson to suit my son’s interests and needs. My son looks forward to every lesson and has grown in confidence, creativity, and musical expression thanks to Lior’s support.” ~Leonie
