About

About

My name is James Barnett and I am a professionally trained pianist and piano teacher based in the heart of Sheffield’s Antiques Quarter. I studied at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where I learnt with some of Europe’s finest musicians and teachers including Jeremy Young and Helen Krizos.

Since arriving in Sheffield in 2012, I have become established as a piano teacher and accompanist. I accompany for a number of local musical groups and instrumental teachers including a workplace-based choir of midwives called “The Voices of the Jessop Wing”.

I am a passionate and committed teacher and completed the CTABRSM award in instrumental teaching during the final year of my degree at the RNCM. Each pupil is different and I learn as much from them as they do from me; teaching is a two-way process. I would be happy to teach you or one of your children to play the piano. To book your first lesson or simply to find out more about lessons don’t hesitate to get in touch visiting my website Piano Lessons Sheffield. I have a fully enhanced DBS check (1483086518).

James has taught my son for around four years now. He is an excellent teacher and I really couldn’t imagine having anyone else. He is great at engaging my son and finding pieces that he will enjoy. James is communicative and able to adapt his teaching to suit the pupil. I would very highly recommend James as a piano teacher!

“As a mature student and a total beginner, before I took piano lessons with James, I found that I really lacked in confidence. He has worked with me to overcome my anxieties relating to learning and playing by breaking the process down. I’m a lot more comfortable in my abilities now and working at a pace that we have found is best for me. I feel relaxed and able to enjoy learning”

“James has rekindled my love of playing with his enthusiastic, thoughtful and often humorous approach to teaching. He is a patient teacher who instils a belief that even the most difficult pieces are achievable.”
