About Jack Davies
Hello there!
Are you looking for a highly qualified, friendly, patient and dedicated teacher to help you with your guitar playing or musicianship? Whether you are finally ready to pick up the instrument you’ve always wanted to learn or are a seasoned player wanting an extra boost of inspiration, Jack is ready to meet all your needs.
One to one lessons:
Jack specialises in classical, acoustic and electric guitar, as well as music theory, with most genres covered. He tailors all his lessons to the individual needs of each student – whether you want to work your way up to Grade 8 on classical or electric guitar, strum your way through your favourite songs on acoustic, jam along with mates, or learn that Jimi Hendrix solo or Metallica riff. His lessons go above and beyond. He doesn’t like to spend quality time writing out homework or things to remember during the lesson – instead, he emails the pupil afterwards with a recap of what they’ve covered and suggestions of what to practice, meaning that you never forget anything from the lesson. He teaches his lessons in his dedicated music room in Camden, Bath.
Band coaching:
If you play regularly with other musicians Jack can also coach you in making a success of your group. He can help you set up your room and equipment to get the best possible sound, rehearse more effectively, write better songs, prepare for gigs and much more.
Recording/mixing:
Jack can show you the basics of recording within a home-studio setup, including mic placement, multitracking and editing/mixing on a DAW such as Logic or Garageband.
Credentials:
Over 14 years teaching experience (Jack has taught over 70 people between the ages of 4 to 70+)
First Class (BMus Hons) degree in Music from Bangor University (specialising in classical guitar performance and songwriting)
ATCL Recital Diploma in Classical Guitar
Grade 8 with Distinction in Classical Guitar
100% pass rate with pupils entered for exams
He is excellent with children, including those with learning difficulties, and holds an enhanced DBS certificate
Jack has played in several established bands in Bristol, and has been gigging for over 14 years around the South West, Wales, Midlands and beyond.
Testimonial from Fiona (mum) and Finley (aged 11):
“Jack has been teaching our son to play the guitar for 1 year. He is a person of integrity who relates very well to all in our family, especially our son. He is punctual for all lessons, arriving at the house for lessons, and friendly and flexible in arranging lessons to meet the demanding schedule of our household. Jack prepares his lessons very well with a wide variety of activities which develop skills across the guitar’s musical range. He sends a written summary of what he has taught, with previously agreed activities, to practice for the next lesson. We highly recommend Jack as a guitar teacher.”
Testimonial from Stephen:
“I came to Jack Davies as a mature beginner wanting to learn the Classical Guitar. Jack listened to what I wanted and expected from the lessons and to my amazement, and within what appeared to be a relatively short period of time for learning a musical instrument (approximately 18/24 months) I had worked through two introductory books (Cracknell) and also had worked through several grade books (Trinity) and was able to work on, with confidence, and play grade 4/5 pieces. Jack is a very talented guitar teacher; with a vast wealth of knowledge and experience and enthusiasm; and is ‘bursting at the seams’ to share all of this. I found the lessons with Jack to be informative, instructional, stimulating and enjoyable, and I would leave each lesson feeling inspired.”
Testimonial from Lilla (aged 11):
“I had an amazing time learning to play the guitar. You taught me so much in just two and a half years! Thank you for encouraging me and being so patient. I will really miss you!”
Thanks for looking!
