About

About

As a digitally-skilled jazz and jazz fusion guitarist, I offer elegant performances and make complex musical concepts accessible in lessons for guitar and bass.

With both practical and academic music backgrounds, I connect well with students’ diverse needs while continually improving as a performer and teacher:

**- Currently pursuing a BA (Hons) Music with the Open University

  • ·       Member of the Independent Society of Musicians
  • ·       Advancing technical skills to achieve licentiate status with a major exam body**

Actively studying myself, I understand both the joys and challenges of learning new skills.

Cancelation & Rescheduling Policy

Please note that my Cancelation & Rescheduling Policies are governed by the Independent Society of Musicians, of whom I am a member. They also serve as final arbiters in any potential dispute.

Cancelation Policy:

The pupil (or Pupil’s parent or carer) will have the right to cancel the Agreement to provide tuition within 14 days from the day after the date of this Agreement by giving written notice of cancellation to me.

If the pupil would like lessons to begin within the 14 day cancellation period, the Pupil (or parent or carer) must provide me with written confirmation  of this. If the Agreement is then cancelled within the 14 day cancellation period, the Pupil is required to pay the fees for any lessons delivered and any other fees paid to the Teacher will be refunded.

Rescheduling Policy:

I will charge for any scheduled lessons which the Pupil does not attend, unless I choose not to do because of exceptional circumstances. If I cancel a scheduled lesson, the Pupil (or the Pupil’s parent or carer) may choose between

  1. carrying the lesson forward,
  2. receiving a replacement lesson or
  3. receiving a refund of the lesson fee.

Note that notice to reschedule lessons is 48 hours (unless exceptional circumstances prevail).

My Musical Inspirations

I was inspired by the music played by my parents as I was growing up. This was truly diverse! In addition to this music, my father being an active musician allowed us to play his band’s instruments and also explore his and mum’s collection of countless cassette tapes. Here are my earliest memories of inspiring music:

• Phil Collins and Philip Bailey

• Gospel and Christian Contemporary music, including John P Kee, Cece Winans, Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Steven Curtis Chapman, and others of a similar ilk

• Jazz, which remains a fundamental source of inspiration: George Benson, Frank Gambale, Charlie Christian, as well as the works of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Emily Remler, Jimmy Dludlu, South African Jazz, and jazz from the 1940s through to today

• Rock and Fusion: Greg Howe, Guthrie Govan, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and so on

• Motown, Funk and Disco: Diana Ross, The Supremes, and others. As you can see, I continue to listen to and draw inspiration from all kinds of music.

However, my favourites remain the genres of Jazz, Jazz Fusion, and Jazz Rock (sometimes called Rock Fusion).
