About Annika Hoi
About Me & My Music Lessons 🎵
Hi! I’m Annika, a passionate and experienced musician who loves sharing my knowledge and helping other students discover how enjoyable music can be. I offer friendly, patient and encouraging private music lessons for beginners and younger students, with lessons adapted to each student’s individual ability, goals and interests.
Music has been a huge part of my life for many years, and I have worked hard to develop my skills across several instruments. I have achieved Grade 8 Piano with High Merit, ARSM Piano Diploma with High Merit, Grade 8 Harp with Merit and Grade 8 Music Theory. I have also performed in orchestras and ensembles and have experience preparing for exams, competitions and performances.
My experience as a student myself helps me understand what it is like to learn a new piece, prepare for an exam, struggle with a difficult technique or feel nervous about performing. I know that every student learns differently, so I aim to make my lessons relaxed, supportive and enjoyable while still helping students make real progress.
What I Can Help With 🎹🎻🪕
Depending on the student’s instrument and level, lessons can include:
- Beginner piano, violin and harp lessons
- Learning and improving pieces
- Reading music and understanding notation
- Music theory
- Exam preparation
- Technique and practice methods
- Sight-reading
- Rhythm and musical understanding
- Performance preparation
- Building confidence
- Musical expression and interpretation
- Developing effective practice habits
I can teach students who are completely new to music, as well as students who already have some experience and would like extra support with their playing or exam preparation.
My Teaching Style 🌟
My main aim is to make lessons fun, encouraging and useful. I don’t want students to feel like music is simply another subject where they have to memorise things and complete endless work. Instead, I want them to understand why they are doing something and enjoy seeing themselves improve.
I am patient and happy to explain something in different ways if a student doesn’t understand it the first time. I believe that making mistakes is a normal and important part of learning, so I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and trying new things.
For younger beginners, I like making lessons interactive and positive. I can introduce musical concepts gradually while helping students build good habits from the beginning. For students preparing for exams, I can provide more structured lessons focusing on their pieces, technique, sight-reading and theory.
Why Choose Me?
I believe one of the advantages of learning with me is that I understand the student experience from a recent perspective. I know that lessons can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when you are learning something difficult or preparing for an exam. I want my students to feel supported rather than pressured.
My own experience of completing advanced qualifications, including my ARSM Piano Diploma with High Merit and Grade 8 Music Theory, means that I have a strong understanding of musical technique, theory, interpretation and exam preparation. I can use this experience to help students develop not only their playing, but also their understanding of music.
I also believe that learning an instrument should be about more than simply playing the correct notes. I want students to become confident musicians who understand and enjoy the music they are playing.
Whether you are looking for your child’s first piano, violin or harp lessons, extra help alongside school music, support with an upcoming exam, or simply someone to help you enjoy playing music as a hobby, I would love to help!
Most importantly, I want every student to leave a lesson feeling that they have achieved something, learnt something new and have something exciting to work on before the next lesson. 🎶
If you’re interested in lessons or would like to find out more about my teaching, experience, availability and lesson options, please feel free to get in touch. I’d be very happy to answer any questions!

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson. This allows me to offer the lesson time to another student.
If you need to cancel with more than 24 hours’ notice, I will do my best to arrange another suitable lesson time where possible.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may not be eligible for a rescheduled lesson, except in cases of illness or an unexpected emergency.
If I need to cancel a lesson, I will give as much notice as possible and arrange a replacement lesson at a mutually convenient time.
I understand that plans can sometimes change unexpectedly, so I will always try to be reasonable and flexible where possible. 😊
By booking a lesson, students and parents/guardians agree to these cancellation and rescheduling terms.
