Ana Pereira

I’m Ana, a professional cellist and music teacher from Portugal, now living and working in Berlin.

Having graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Performance at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE), I also attended a Master’s program in Performing Arts as well as a Master’s program in Music Education.

Over the last 10 years of teaching experience, both in private schools and in my own studio, I’ve had students of all ages, levels, and abilities, always tailoring the lessons to each student’s needs, either to prepare the student for exams (ABRSM or similar), performances or just for pure fun. Passion for music comes in many forms and can be translated in various ways. As a teacher, providing students with the necessary tools to achieve their goals and adapting the course to their needs is a priority. Developing an intuitive reaction and musical reflexes, connecting to the instrument on an emotional level, with repertoire chosen for each student, taking into account their preferences and intentions, is a vital part of teaching. I’m very passionate about passing my knowledge to students who share the same enjoyment of playing the cello.

My style of teaching will help students be their own teacher: being aware of every detail, mindful of every component that will bring everything together while playing, and analyzing themselves in order to be able to continue the practice at home and in the future. By exploring their own musical interests and limitations, the student will feel encouraged to think outside the box and seek new musical experiences.

As a musician, I have prolific work in chamber and orchestral music, having integrated several ensembles, playing from early Baroque to Contemporary music, and venturing into solo performances, with a wide spectrum of composers and eras.

As of late, I’ve been experimenting with other genres of music, such as pop, rock, folk and stage music, expanding the cello sound to other grounds. Since moving to Berlin, I’ve collaborated regularly with Emaline Delapaix Trio and KlangArt Berlin, Shaul Bustan Trio, Cellogy, Musica Sancta Ensemble, and TeAo Trio.

I’m always interested in shaping other projects, with the intent of fusing jazz and world music, as well as exploring my interest in arrangements and expanding the cello sound to other grounds.
