About AJ Hudson

I’m an electric bass guitarist with a RSL Grade 8 Distinction, a GCSE Music Grade 9, and a deep passion for the instrument that’s shaped both my playing and my studies.

Currently an A‑Level student studying Music and Music Technology, and I also study jazz bass at the Junior Guildhall School of Music, where I’m constantly developing my musicianship, creativity, and understanding of what makes great bass playing truly stand out.

Bass has always been the place where I feel most at home. I love the way it anchors a band, drives the groove, and brings music to life. That enthusiasm is at the heart of my teaching. Whether you’re picking up a bass for the first time or looking to refine advanced techniques, I aim to make every lesson engaging, supportive, and tailored to your goals.

I teach all levels and styles, but my biggest inspirations come from jazz and funk—genres where the bass can be expressive, bold, and full of personality. If you want to learn how to walk a confident jazz line, sit deep in a funk pocket, or explore your own musical voice, I’ll help you build the skills and musical understanding to get there. Lessons can cover technique, groove, improvisation, reading, ear training, theory, tone shaping, and stylistic development, always shaped around what excites you most.

Although I play both electric bass and double bass, my teaching focuses exclusively on electric bass, allowing me to give students the most focused and practical guidance for the instrument they’re learning.

All lessons take place in my home studio in Saffron Walden. I don’t travel for teaching, but I’ve created a relaxed, well‑equipped space that’s ideal for learning. If you don’t yet own a bass or amp, you’re welcome to use mine during the lesson—just bring yourself and your curiosity.

My aim is to help every student discover what makes bass exciting for them. Whether you’re preparing for graded exams, working towards performances, exploring new genres, or simply playing for fun, I’ll support you with clear guidance, structured progression, and a positive, encouraging atmosphere.

If you’re ready to develop your groove, expand your musical skills, and enjoy the journey of becoming a better bassist, I’d love to help you get started.
