I am an enthusiastic and highly motivated pianist, clarinetist and singer currently studying BA Music final year at Middlesex University London. I have been playing the piano for over fifteen years. I have a positive, fun, enthusiastic personality with strong interpersonal skills. I am organized, resourceful and passionate about the importance of music education. One of my career goals is to encourage and care for children and adults alike by promoting their creative abilities through music. I am able to teach in a variety of technical exercises like scales, arpeggios, etc and a variety of musical styles, understanding music theory and performing live on stage. I am able to make you understand the sessions in a simple and interesting manner. I use an effective variety of teaching techniques to make lessons fun and enjoyable. I have worked voluntarily at Sacred Heart Convent Sri Lanka and currently, I am working in a music academy at Edgware as a piano/keyboard tutor also doing private home tuition. I teach from home (Harpenden Hertfordshire) as well as travel 1 mile if you have a piano/keyboard at home. Teaching Piano and Performing are two fundamental aspects of my life. On July 2016, after two wonderful years Masters in Piano Accompaniment, I graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London with Distinction. Alongside my studies and active Performance career, I built up an experience of 11 years in Piano teaching both privately and for Music School. In practical terms, my tasks are as follow: Preparing pupils (adults and children) for grade examination (ABRSM and Trinity – Guildhall); Teaching Music Theory; Preparing lessons and applying teaching methods to suit each pupil according to their age and needs; Providing a varied and enjoyable range of activities to improve pupils technical abilities and inspire them to enjoy practising between lessons. Music can improve people life and I believe that learning a musical instrument can positively affect one’s life and becoming a better human being. I strongly believe that teaching Piano is not only a matter of achieving Grades but it is also a way to help my students to communicate their feelings and emotions through music. I must admit that I am learning a lot from my pupils and they constantly surprise me with their imagination. My students say that I am passionate, fun patient, enthusiastic (sometimes a bit too much!) and organised Piano teacher. I currently have only few slots left in the afternoon and I am willing to teach adults in the mornings. It is never too late to learn!!! I have been a professional pianist and teacher for more than thirty years, having performed all over the world in classical, jazz, world music and pop genres. I have taught piano for around 30 years in my own home, traveling to pupils’ houses and in several Primary and Secondary schools. I have also taught for many years in two Music Schools. More recently, I have been teaching online too using a multiple camera setup, including a camera placed directly above the keyboard. Having worked as a musician in many musical styles, I try to meet the individual needs of each pupil, whether they wish to learn classical, jazz or pop music. I teach all styles to grade 8 level and above, and can enter pupils into ABRSM or Trinity classical or jazz grades, Rockschool or Trinity Rock and Pop grades etc. I also enjoy teaching those who do not wish to take graded exams, and I have a catalogue of my own written arrangements of Classical, Jazz and Pop pieces to suit all tastes and abilities. In addition, I can write a bespoke arrangement of any piece a student wishes to learn, tailored to their individual needs.
