My name is Ashley Kingsley. I’m a piano teacher based in Brighton, with a Masters degree from the Royal College of Music. I teach all ages from 7 and up, and I happily teach beginners to very advanced levels in all styles of music. My experiences as a professional pianist have taught me that we are all different and unique in our tastes in music, so being very flexible is vastly important especially when teaching the piano. I do believe that for beginners and school children it’s highly valuable to learn to read music. Music notation is a unique language, so it’s important to understand the basics of this in order to lay down the foundations of your practise. I vastly encourage learning to play the music that interests you. In fact, I feel it’s mandatory to learn songs you love – after all, that’s why you’re learning right? I strive to be as honest with students about there practise as possible and will always do this in a very gentle way. It’s vital that all students feel comfortable asking me when there is something they don’t understand and that they respect my opinion. Parent’s responsibility: I keep parents up to date with every lesson. I encourage parents to observe lessons if they wish and to help with productive practise for their children. I also take notes on every lesson which can then be emailed to parents. Atmosphere: I am very easygoing as I remember having many piano teachers who I dreaded seeing! My goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and to learn in a fun environment. Music Qualifications & Achievements: Masters in Composition for screen from Royal College 0f Music I’ve composed Music for many Music Library companies and 2 feature films in US, I’ve also done full orchestration for Beverley Knight for Andrea Bocelli European tour 2018 As a session pianist, I’ve played for numerous artists including: Beverley Knight (20 Years – world, support tours including Prince, Bryan Adams, Carlos Santana, Jamiroquai, Take That) Jimmy Cliff (2003 tour) Chris Rea (2000 world tour)

Guy Jones - Piano teacher
Guy Jones
PianoBrighton, Brighton and Hove, UK0.1 km

G’day, I’m Guy. An Australian born multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and performer based in Brighton and London. After 3 years of being self-taught I began my professional career at the age of 17, playing in covers bands and committing hours of non stop focus to my musical development. Given my shared enthusiasm to playing and performing, I quickly began to realise that there was a real drive to construct, write and execute compositions whilst demonstrating a true passion for emotive storytelling. Over the past 17 years I have been fortunate to tour the UK, work with internationally renowned producers and musicians, played on several of the UK’s music festivals stages and multiple projects I have worked on and have received international radio broadcasts including national UK stations such as BBC Radio ONE and BBC Radio 6 Music. Since 2018 I have been teaching and mentoring students of all levels. From beginners to intermediate teachers finding their feet within another musical medium. I’ve helped develop students on a range of instruments including; Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano as well as helping singers and producers to develop their musicality and evolve their unique musical voice. If you want to collaborate and be inspired whilst learning HOW to think about art and music instead of WHAT to think about them then I am the teacher for you. Music Qualifications & Achievements: BA in Songwriting and performance from Brighton Institute of Modern Music 17 years performance experience Music released through record labels both in the UK and internationally Songs played on BBC radio 6 and Radio one Signed songwriter with Wixen Publishing Booking agent Echelon Talent Agency Multi-instrumentalist: Guitar & Bass, Piano, Cello Currently touring in a band who have played several of the UK’s biggest festivals including being invited to Glastonbury in 2020 as well as being hand selected by The Music Venues Trust for their ‘Revive Live Tour’ and playing a headline show at the Brighton Dome in 2020 for the ‘Revive Live’ Campaign that successfully raised money to keep grass roots UK music venues running through the pandemic. I was inspired to start teaching shortly after realising a gap within the tutor market. There wasn’t enough diversity across theoretical and practical knowledge. Two of the main requirements to keep up with a fast paced and forever changing landscape of the modern music world. My lessons are developed in collaboration with my students to produce bespoke content to enhance a more enjoyable learning experience. A creative life does need structure and a willingness to commit as well as a mentor that is patient and nurturing. I consult and collaborate with my students in order to help them reach their goals, whilst understanding that personal objectives may shift, or their latest band/project/student demands a new skill from them. As an example, a singing teacher may find that they need to up their piano skills to keep up with their students. Perhaps you are classically trained and can sight read, but you would like to develop your improvisational abilities… Or maybe you just decided that you lugging your keyboard to every show is too much and you want to learn your songs on guitar… These are the things that I excel at and inspire me to share my unique and modern approach to advancing your musical skills.

Katryna Abel
PianoBrighton, Brighton and Hove, UK0.1 km
£22.50

Kat Abel is a professional vocalist, pianist, and music educator with over eight years of experience in the industry. She has performed extensively across genres, from jazz and soul to reggae, gypsy, and Latin music, but her true passion lies in jazz and soul. Influenced by legends like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as early 2000s icons like Beyoncé and Adele, Kat blends vintage charm with a modern edge in both her performances and teaching. As a music teacher, Kat specializes in vocal technique, stage presence, and musical expression, helping students build confidence and artistry. She also leads choirs, creating a welcoming and inspiring environment where singers of all levels can develop their skills and experience the joy of group performance. Kat’s lessons are student-led, allowing each individual to explore their musical interests while developing strong foundational skills. She believes that learning music should be both enjoyable and rewarding, tailoring her approach to each student’s goals—whether they want to refine their technique, build confidence in performance, or simply sing for fun. Her lessons incorporate engaging warm-up exercises to strengthen vocal control, followed by working on songs chosen by the students. She also integrates breathing techniques, somatic exercises, and music therapy-inspired practices to help students connect more deeply with their voice, reduce tension, and enhance overall well-being through singing. In addition to teaching, Kat is a session musician, collaborating with producers on top-line writing and creating music for sync placements. She performs regularly, playing shows with multiple projects across the UK and Europe. As a self-employed musician, she has built a successful career by forging strong relationships with venues, event organizers, and fellow artists, allowing her to maintain a dynamic and thriving presence in the industry.

Piano lessons: what to expect

Piano lessons near you

Great piano lessons combine structured technical development with repertoire that inspires you. Search by location to find local teachers for in-person tuition, or choose online lessons to access specialist tutors in your chosen style.

Who piano lessons are for

Piano suits learners of all ages — children, teens, adults and returning players. Lessons can be tailored to beginners, hobbyists, exam candidates, and aspiring performers.

What you’ll learn in piano lessons

Lessons focus on technique, rhythm, reading, ear training, and musical expression. Teachers create progressive plans so you consistently improve week-to-week.

Online vs in-person piano lessons

Online lessons are effective for repertoire, theory and technique when recorded materials and clear audio/video setup are used. In-person lessons offer direct physical guidance and instrument-specific coaching.

A simple learning path for piano

A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.

Weeks 1–6: Foundations
1

Develop posture, hand position, basic sight-reading, simple scales and arpeggios, and a practice routine that builds consistent progress.

Months 2–6: Technique & repertoire
2

Expand technique with scales, arpeggios and exercises; learn pieces across styles and build expressive playing and musicality.

Months 6+: Style & performance
3

Refine interpretation, explore improvisation or accompaniment, and prepare confidently for exams, recitals, or studio sessions.

Getting started: what you need

Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.

  • A reliable upright or digital piano with weighted keys is ideal — full-size 88-key preferred.
  • Piano bench at the correct height helps maintain relaxed posture and technique.
  • A metronome and a simple practice plan (20–40 minutes daily) yield far better results than occasional long sessions.

Styles & goals your teacher can support

Choose a direction — lessons can be tailored around what you actually want to play.
