As a member of the choirs at Merton College Oxford and Yale Schola Cantorum, I was able to perform at major concert halls and on tours of the USA, India and Russia. All of these experiences give me a broad understanding of the colours of the orchestra and human voice.
An exciting pianist needs to have a vivid imagination and the ability to mimic these colours which inform so much of the music that has been composed over the years. This is something I am greatly inspired to pass on in my teaching.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginners and advanced players to take my lessons. I will always make a lesson plan that suits your needs as a learner and player.
I hold two professional piano diplomas from Trinity College London as well as a BA in Music from Oxford University and a Master’s from Yale School of Music (choral conducting).
As a pianist I was proud to win first prize in Sussex piano competitions during my teens (Springboard and Worthing) and to feature as a soloist with Brighton Youth String Orchestra at Birmingham Symphony Hall.
I have also accompanied masterclasses with musicians such as Renee Flemming, Ian Burnside and Matthew Halls From university onward my main performance activities centered around conducting choirs and orchestras, performing at venues such as Christ Church Cathedral, The Sheldonian Theatre and Norwich Cathedral.
I am a young professional pianist and Junior Fellow at the Royal Northern College of Music (starting Sept 2021). My passion is for working with singers and my work at RNCM involves playing for opera production rehearsals. I was inspired to learn the piano as a child because unlike other instruments you can play harmony and cover the range of the entire orchestra.
It truly is a magic box of colours that can be unlocked with the right training. When I started playing in bands and playing for church on Sundays I realised that a pianist can inspire an entire choir to sing up and express joyfully, and so working with voices became a key part of what keeps me going at the piano.
I began sharing my passion for the piano as a teenager when I started teaching and I learn so much from observing others and helping them to reach their potential. I have been teaching both privately and in schools for 10 years. I have taught across ages and abilities, but it is particularly important to me to work with beginners. In my childhood, I was held back by not being shown efficient technique based on the natural movement of the body and it’s important to me that playing should feel good physically and create satisfaction that motivated further development. I believe that having a strong comfortable technique can make all the difference in creating a long term love of playing an instrument and I want to share this at the very beginning.
I'm a professional piano teacher who can help you improve your classical playing and understanding of musical theory regardless of your level. My lessons are always built around the styles that you enjoy and we will always work towards your goals together. If you have any more questions, please feel free to send me an email at any time.
