Hi, I’m Leo, an instrumental teacher and professional musician based in South London. I’m really excited to help you experience the infinite joy of making music! Learning with me, you will find that training yourself to play an instrument is simpler than you thought possible. Not only will I give you the technical and musical knowledge required to become a great musician, I will also show you how to build healthy and productive practice and performance habits so that you can enjoy improving and playing consistently on your instrument of choice. Lessons with me are entirely student-centric, taking into account your current skill level, goals, musical interests, and learning style. I understand that there can be many mental and physical barriers to learning music, and over my many years of experience as a teacher, I have always found a way around them for my students. I have a very deep understanding of technique and theory, having spent half my life practicing guitar. I have spent years researching how to play guitar and bass using the least possible physical effort, employing musculature and gravity efficiently. I can show you how good tone is produced and how to build coordination. I am familiar with a huge range of music and can show you songs and pieces to learn that are not only suited to your interests and skill level, but will also give you foundational skills that will make the next songs you learn easier. Above all, if there’s any music you want to learn, I will find a way to get you playing it as soon as possible. For those students interested in doing grades, I am experienced with getting students prepared for exams, and am familiar with the repertoire in most of the grade books including Trinity Classical and Rock/Pop, ABRSM Classical and Plectrum, as well as Rockschool and RGT grades.
My name is Nick Morgan and I am a professional Bassist based in Brixton, and working on London’s famous Denmark Street. Having started with the viola aged 8, I have since picked up a wealth of experience and knowledge – as well as other instruments – which I am keen to share. At age 13 I added the guitar and bass to my repertoire and joined a variety of different ensembles, including Orchestras, Concert Bands, Jazz Combos of various sizes, String Quartets and Popular Groups from Metal to Indie. I attended weekly rehearsals for each group, as well as taking any school-provided Music opportunities and quickly found Music was all I wanted to do, despite never planning it as a career option. However, thanks to these groups and courses, by the age of 18 I had played dozens of concerts throughout Europe and gained an understanding of what it takes to be a professional performer in almost any scenario or venue; further honed by my time at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I earned a BMus Music degree with Second-Class Honours. Thus, since then I have thrown myself into the world of Music. While at Goldsmiths I continued playing in the University Orchestra, as well as my own projects away from the world of classical music (available to view below) with a particular love of production and engineering appearing. I spent time working in such studios as the fantastic GMS at Goldsmiths, Snap Studios and recently Metropolis Studios, and eventually recording with artists such as Brandy Row, Robert Chaney and Oli Swan’s Dangerous Creatures. Today my primary group, Big Peyote, have our own studio as well as my own home facilities, and recording has become another skill that I am keen to share. In the modern music industry, it has become a necessity to be highly adaptable and possess a wide range of skills from recording and performing to effective self-promotion and networking. As an example of this myself – currently teaching, working as a session musician, writing and recording with a number of projects, and also working selling instruments on Denmark Street – I am able to not just teach you an instrument, but how to get yourself into this crazy industry! Music Qualifications & Achievements: Grade 8 Viola with Merit (ABRSM) Grade 8 Theory with Distinction (ABRSM) Grade 5 Bass with Distinction (Rockschool) GCSE Music – A* (Overall – 4 A*s 7 As 1 B) A Level Music Tech – A; Music – B; Maths B 2:1 BMus Degree from Goldsmiths, UoL Notable Performances: Royal Albert Hall; Palace of Milan with CMA Concert Band & Orchestra O2 Forum with LITTLEWING Long Road Festival with Robert Chaney Penn Festival with Big Peyote
I have been a professional musician for over 15 years, having worked both nationally and internationally with artists across a range of contemporary genres. I have recorded in some of the UK’s best studios, such as Metropolis Studios, Rockfield studios and Universal Studios, plus I have performed in some of the best venues in London including the 02 academy Shepherds Bush and Camden Roundhouse to name a couple. I currently hold a Bachelors degree from the BIMM Institute in London as well as a Masters degree in Music and Sonic Media, where I excelled in composition for multi-media and sound design. Outside of performance, I compose for a variety of different multimedia streams such as podcasts, TV, film and documentaries. As a guitar teacher, I have been active for over 10 years, working with students from all over the world to help them achieve their guitar playing goals, be it learning songs, theory, soloing or exams. Music Qualifications & Achievements: BMus Popular Music Performance (guitar), BIMM London MA Music and Sonic Media I also teach bass guitar and music theory, as well as music recording.
My name is Andy. I am a guitarist with fifteen years experience of gigging and performance, and a passion for helping people find their way into music with accessible, and enjoyable beginner lessons. What artist first made you first want to pick up the guitar? Which song do you day dream about playing? Some students find the pressure, and structure of exams and grades helpful and motivating - and some don't! All students learn differently, and my lessons will reflect those unique needs. What drives my lessons is an understanding of where the students find their joy in music - what got them interested? What are their passions? Rooting their learning in their own enjoyment of art creates the best musicians, and the best artists. As a musician myself I have performed in live bands for fifteen years. I am currently on tour as lead guitarist for Gemma Rogers band. In 2023 alone we played five shows at Glastonbury, supported Paulo Nutini at the Brighton Festival Series, played Secret Garden Party, and Minifest in Barcelona, as well as sold out London Headline shows at The Courtyard, and the Lexington. Alongside this, I play bass guitar for The Steady Letters - a indie punk group, and CaptainCaptain, a London based function band playing venues around Clapham and Wandsworth, as well as acoustic guitar for The Double Covers, a function duo playing acoustic blues and soul. This professional experience takes my lessons beyond the musical instruction, and allows me to offer an insight into the life of a touring musician. Whether for school, exams, or just for the simple, cathartic joy of it; I offer a professional, fun, and educational service, with music at it’s heart.
I am a professional secondary school music teacher offering 1-on-1 Rock School and Trinity Rock and Pop guitar lessons for pupils of all ages. Lessons are typically 30 mins to 1 hour in length. These can be delivered in person or online, whatever suits you. We review the curriculum together and tailor lessons to suit your learning style. We set up realistic targets and you will be supported every step of the way to help take your guitar playing to the next level. A stereotypical lesson would consist of: 1) Warm up exercises and technical skills 2) A play through of material learnt in the previous lesson/home practice, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. 3) Addressing these areas and polishing your technique. 4) Pushing forward and learning new content. 5) Setting targets to be completed for the next lesson in your own home practice. My skills and expertise include playing the electric guitar, acoustic guitars, bass guitar and piano. I have an eclectic musical taste but my main influences derive from rock and metal music. I am based in the Elephant and Castle area located very close to train, underground and bus stops for easy access for students. I am willing to travel to the students property but this needs to be discussed prior to agreeing lessons. Online lessons available also. You will find that I am a very supportive teacher and I am able to get the best out of my students by scaffolding their learning to suit their individual needs so that they can achieve the highest results possible. Guitar lessons in Brixton: structured, musical music lessons
Guitar lessons in Brixton are often a mix of learning real songs and building solid fundamentals—keeping lessons fun while you develop the habits of a confident musician. Many students want to play quickly, but also want the confidence that comes from good technique and a clear plan. Lessons commonly cover tuning, timing, chord shapes, clean fretting, and right-hand technique, with a simple practice structure so you can track progress from week to week and maintain consistent quality.
Guitar lessons for acoustic and electric guitar
Brixton tutors teach both acoustic and electric guitar, and lessons can be tailored to your goals. Acoustic work often focuses on rhythm, touch, and chord clarity, while electric can include tone, muting, lead phrasing, and stylistic techniques. A typical lesson also includes core skills like chord changes, timing, and smooth transitions between riffs and song sections. If performing is one of your goals, you’ll also work on clean starts/stops, consistent tempo, and playing through mistakes—skills every performer needs.
Music theory in context (when it helps your playing)
Many guitar lessons include practical theory that supports what you’re learning: how chords are built, what a key is, and how scales connect to riffs, melodies, and common patterns in the music you play. Kept simple and song-based, this can help with learning by ear, TAB, or standard notation, and can support improvisation, songwriting, and graded exam preparation. You’ll also look at how parts are composed, so you can borrow ideas for your own riffs and songs.
Choosing a guitar teacher in Brixton (South London): what to look for
A good guitar teacher will do more than demonstrate shapes—they’ll explain what to practise (and why), then help you practise effectively. In lessons, teachers often listen for common issues like timing drift, buzzing, uneven dynamics, and unclear rhythm, then address the cause with focused exercises. When comparing tutors, look for clear lesson structure, patient feedback, and a dedicated learning path that matches your tastes, goals, and schedule—hallmarks of a good teacher.

Brixton itself has limited dedicated guitar shops, so most players use nearby South London and central London stores for gear and repairs. For a wider range of instruments and equipment, many players also travel into central London where larger stores allow you to compare guitars, pedals, and amplifiers in person. For repairs, independent guitar technicians across South London are widely used, and a teacher can usually recommend someone trusted. A good setup can make a significant difference to how comfortable and responsive your instrument feels.
Brixton has played an important role in UK music culture, particularly across rock, soul, and electronic scenes. One of the most famous figures associated with the area is David Bowie, who was born in Brixton and remains a central part of its cultural identity. The area is also closely linked to Soul II Soul, whose sound grew out of South London’s club and sound-system culture and helped shape modern British soul and R&B. More broadly, Brixton’s venues and nightlife have supported generations of artists across genres, making it an important hub for live music and cultural influence. For guitar students, this environment is useful for understanding how different styles develop and how live performance connects with wider music scenes.
