Ethos & Methodology: 1. Help students reach their drumming goals as fast and effortlessly as possible.Learning the drums can be painful and slow. I understand learners' challenges, so I aim to make your musical journey smooth and enjoyable.I appreciate that students often have busy and stressful lives outside of drumming, and lessons should be a time of relaxation, learning, and enjoyment. With flexible scheduling and travel options, I can bring drum lessons to you, saving you time and effort. After each session, you’ll receive a personalised lesson summary with custom sheet music, helpful resources, and clear practice goals. I also provide ongoing support between lessons, so you’re never left stuck or unsure of what to do next. 2. I let the student guide the lesson and study what excites them.Music is most powerful when it excites you. Too many students lose motivation because they’re forced to study material they don’t connect with.My approach is different: I encourage students to guide the direction of their lessons, focusing on the songs, styles, and skills that inspire them. While I ensure strong foundations in technique, I balance this with making real music from day one. This keeps lessons engaging, enjoyable, and personally meaningful — so you stay motivated and see faster progress. 3. Find your voice. This phrase can seem cliche and often lacks substance when used.I was proficient at copying others in my early years of learning the instrument. However, I struggled to be creative, take initiative, and think for myself. This is similar to someone who can regurgitate/imitate a phrase in a conversation (like a parrot) but cannot express their own opinion and think for themselves. My goal as a teacher is to help the students imitate other musicians, assimilate their ideas, and innovate to find their unique voices.
Brian Hedemann is a Danish-born professional drummer, singer, guitarist, and music educator with over 25 years of experience. After two decades teaching music in London’s primary and secondary schools, he’s now channeled his passion into founding his own academy—a space where personalised, high-quality music education meets real-world artistry. Specialising in tailored lessons, Brian covers performance, technique, songwriting, music production, and recording skills, ensuring each student’s journey is as unique as their goals. His approach blends discipline with creativity, grounded in a simple philosophy: Consistent, efficient practice turns any musical ambition into reality. A seasoned touring musician, Brian has performed internationally with artists like Room 11, Faith i Branko, and Sir Cliff Richard experience he brings directly into his teaching. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced musician, his lessons are designed to inspire growth, confidence, and joy in every note. This academy isn’t just a new chapter for Brian; it’s a testament to his belief that music education should be accessible, dynamic, and transformative. Online lessons are available upon request—because great teaching shouldn’t be limited by location. Join the journey, and let’s make music mean more. I am a professional drummer and drum teacher offering high-quality, one-to-one drum tuition from a dedicated studio space in Haggerston, East London. Alongside my teaching work, I maintain an active career as a session drummer and live performer, which strongly informs my approach to education. My teaching places equal emphasis on technical accuracy, musical understanding, and practical application, ensuring students develop skills that are both measurable and musically relevant. I have experience teaching students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners through to advanced players preparing for graded examinations. Lessons are carefully structured and planned to suit each student’s goals, whether they are working towards recognised drum kit grades, improving general musicianship, or building confidence as a performer. Students preparing for examinations are supported through recognised awarding bodies such as Rockschool (RSL) and Trinity Rock & Pop, with clear guidance on: Technical development Set pieces and performance preparation Sight reading and rhythmic accuracy Aural skills and stylistic awareness Grades are offered as an option rather than a requirement, allowing lessons to remain flexible while maintaining a clear sense of progression. All lessons take place on a one-to-one basis in a professional, well-equipped teaching environment. I aim to create a focused and supportive atmosphere in which students can progress at an appropriate pace and develop a strong, long-term relationship with their instrument.
I have my own purpose built studio with a full acoustic drum kit set up and an additional electronic drum kit where I will be seated so that there is a clear and functional teaching environment for the student and I. I am a professional drummer and experienced music teacher with a lifelong passion for education and musical development. My own musical journey began in childhood through dance and piano, which gave me a strong grounding in rhythm, coordination, and musical understanding. These early skills made the transition to drum kit very natural, and I went on to study professionally after being awarded a Drumtech scholarship at the age of 22. Since qualifying, I have worked as a professional drummer across a wide range of musical styles including rock, pop, funk, jazz, hip-hop, metal, folk rock, and country. I have extensive experience performing live and recording with different artists, as well as releasing my own solo project, where I wrote, recorded, and produced all the material myself. Alongside this, I also run steel pan workshops in schools and perform with Pantonic Steel Orchestra in Hackney, giving me a strong background in group teaching and working with young people. Teaching is a central part of my career and something I genuinely love. I am a patient, encouraging, and structured teacher who understands that every child learns differently. My lessons are designed to build confidence as well as musical ability, helping students feel comfortable, supported, and motivated from their very first lesson. I teach using the Rockschool (RSL) Trinity and ABRSM syllabuses from Grades 1–8 and have many years of experience preparing students for exams. All of my students who have taken exams under my guidance have achieved Pass, Merit or Distinction. However, exams are always optional — for some students they are a great goal to work towards, while others prefer to focus on learning songs, developing coordination, or simply enjoying playing music. I work closely with parents to ensure lessons suit each child’s needs, interests, and pace of learning. Lessons focus on developing solid technique, good posture, timing, listening skills, and musical understanding, while keeping sessions fun and engaging. For younger students especially, I aim to balance structure with creativity so that learning never feels overwhelming. I am very mindful of attention spans and adapt lessons accordingly. I welcome beginners of all ages, as well as children who already play and want to progress further. Whether your child is learning for enjoyment, confidence-building, or working towards exams, I provide a safe, positive learning environment where they can grow musically. Private lessons take place at Brixton Hill Studios or in Waltham Cross, in a professional yet relaxed setting. I am always happy to communicate with parents about progress, goals, and practice support at home. My aim is not only to teach drumming, but to help children develop a lasting love of music.
