Welcome to Kilburn Guitar Lessons! My name is Lewis and I am a professional guitarist, teacher, performer and composer with over 16 years playing experience. I enjoy teaching all abilities from advanced players with specialised goals, to absolute beginners. I plan my lessons to suit the student depending on what exactly it is that they want to achieve. The learning process will help students find new goals and ideas for what they want to learn next within music. Whether it’s learning your favourite songs as a hobby, or preparation for graded exams and a serious career path, lessons should always be fun. Outside of teaching I play and compose in various original groups and professional function bands. Past gigs with original projects include slots with Tears for Fears, John Etheridge, ABC and Bananarama. I currently work with music services around London including the Tri Borough Music Service and Rock Project Croydon. Before moving to London I worked with Services For Education in Birmingham. There I taught lessons in guitar, bass and whole class ukulele in multiple schools throughout the week. This work required me to really refine my lessons, planning and build the mental stamina to deliver valuable and appropriate lessons. Services For Education In the summer of 2018 I taught instrument and band lessons at Camp Ballibay for the Performing Arts, Pennsylvania, USA (#1 arts camp in North America). Throughout my time there I was working with students of all backgrounds and abilities between the age of 8 and 16. I learnt to adapt my teaching approach to suit the needs of the individual. Music has been a major part of my life since I was 12 years old when I had my first drumming lesson. Throughout the years I have experienced, educated myself and pushed myself to become a better drummer and musician. My journey with drums started at a small school called Foundation Groove, founded by my drum tutor James De Lovell. There I learnt the basics of drumming which sparked my love for it. I was involved in lots of shows and drum clinics for all ages to learn, play and grow with other drummers and musicians. I was also studying music at my Secondary School and completed it at the CXC level. From there I then applied at the Barbados Community College (BCC) in Applied Arts Music. I gained great experience playing in multiple ensembles, each with their own style and genre of music. I was able to play at different cultural events such as the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) run by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) Barbados and be a part of the Youth Pan Project Seniors. This gave me the opportunity to understand myself more and what it’s like to be a part of a band. The college opened my eyes more to the music industry and the challenges that come when pursuing to being a successful musician. Constant rehearsing, studying and practising to ensure you were ready to create and strive on your own. After my 2 years at BCC, I joined my first local band called Jenn and 166. A rock band. During my time with them, we won a competition against another popular band called Masala. Hosted by Chum FM Breakfast in Barbados, a Canadian radio station. We were chosen to open the concert for One Republic held at Holders House, Barbados. This gave me more insight into band progress, musicianship, exposure and experience on stage in front of thousands. I then took the opportunity to create my own band called Tranzishun (transition). With each band member specialized in different genres of music, we were able to take the multi-genre band across Barbados performing at various venues, restaurants, hotels and cultural events. We were also able to be the backing band for famous British R&B Artists, MBE Omar Lye-Fook, Don-E and Carol Thompson at the London Elite All White Party in Barbados. I later joined another band called Kalead and Kayaweh. A Reggae based band. We toured Jamaica for Reggae Month in February 2018. We attended multiple live radio sessions, interviews, live performances and collaborations. We also recorded with upcoming artists and met Dre Tosh (Peter Tosh’s grandson) at the Tuff Gong studio founded by Bob Marley in Kensington Jamaica. We were able to watch live performances by famous artists such as Luciano the Messenjah, Taurus Rilley and many others. Through all my experiences I was able to share my talent and my love for music with others. I was able to witness professionals and learn from them, I was able to connect to different artists and cultures and add to my own style of play. I love all genres of music and I’m very versatile because of my experiences. I have also taught younger children as a way to give back what I have learnt over the years. I enjoy the interaction and enthusiasm of the children I teach and will continue doing so. Freelance drum teacher – E11 Music (2004 – 2006) Teaching at E11 music has taught me to work with students within a set framework while at the same time developing my own personal touch. I have developed my skills communicating my knowledge to others whether they are a beginner, intermediate or advanced student. I was very keen to share my passion with students. It made me flexible and I was able to adapt to each individual’s way of learning. Freelance drum teacher – private This work has enabled me to develop my lessons from the ground up. It gives me a more personal way of teaching, showing how I have developed my skill and knowledge on the instrument, as I am mainly self-taught. I ultimately show students how they can continue to grow and learn on the instrument as a life long process. Music Workshops: I have been involved in ‘jazz workshops’ at schools and universities over the UK with a jazz group who I had been touring the country with. In these workshops, we demonstrated our instrumental roles within the group and how they varied through different sections within various compositions. We deconstructed elements to show what was happening in the music, interacting with the students in the process. We explained different musical styles and demonstrated how they differ from one another. There were also question and answer sections where we got to directly engage with individual students and further develop their understanding. Although these were ‘jazz’ workshops, we tailored them specifically to show how our music works, while encompassing the jazz idiom as a whole. One of the most notable workshops was at Arnold Hill Academy, a Nottingham school, and was organised by ‘JazzSteps’. This workshop had high critical acclaim, with a press release reporting the workshop’s success. Music Qualifications & Achievements: Freelance musician – drummer My experience as a freelance musician has included working with some of the top musicians in the UK, Europe and the USA in various genres of music such as Jazz, Funk, Soul, Latin, Rock, World-music, to name a few. This further developed my ability to adapted quickly and to learn a significant amount of material in a short space of time, which I did successfully. I was able to work well with my colleagues under pressure and establish a professional working environment. These are some other artists who I have had a more established involvement with: Nicolas Meier (Meier Group) – (2003 – present) Groove Razors – (2009 – present) Preston Glasgow Lowe – (2011 – present) Robert Mitchell – (2010 – 2016) Gilad Atzmon – (2008) John Law – (2013 – 2016) Natacha Atlas – (2016 – present) Cecelia Stalin – (2012 – present) Session recording – drums My experience in this field has shown how I am able to adapt to each individual’s requirements and needs on the spot. It has put me in situations where I’ve had to be flexible and think on my feet yet deliver what is required. Hi, I’m Leo, an instrumental teacher and professional musician based in South London. I’m really excited to help you experience the infinite joy of making music! Learning with me, you will find that training yourself to play an instrument is simpler than you thought possible. Not only will I give you the technical and musical knowledge required to become a great musician, I will also show you how to build healthy and productive practice and performance habits so that you can enjoy improving and playing consistently on your instrument of choice. Lessons with me are entirely student-centric, taking into account your current skill level, goals, musical interests, and learning style. I understand that there can be many mental and physical barriers to learning music, and over my many years of experience as a teacher, I have always found a way around them for my students. I have a very deep understanding of technique and theory, having spent half my life practicing guitar. I have spent years researching how to play guitar and bass using the least possible physical effort, employing musculature and gravity efficiently. I can show you how good tone is produced and how to build coordination. I am familiar with a huge range of music and can show you songs and pieces to learn that are not only suited to your interests and skill level, but will also give you foundational skills that will make the next songs you learn easier. Above all, if there’s any music you want to learn, I will find a way to get you playing it as soon as possible. For those students interested in doing grades, I am experienced with getting students prepared for exams, and am familiar with the repertoire in most of the grade books including Trinity Classical and Rock/Pop, ABRSM Classical and Plectrum, as well as Rockschool and RGT grades.

I have experience teaching students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners through to advanced players preparing for graded examinations. Lessons are carefully structured and planned to suit each student’s goals, whether they are working towards recognised drum kit grades, improving general musicianship, or building confidence as a performer. Students preparing for examinations are supported through recognised awarding bodies such as Rockschool (RSL) and Trinity Rock & Pop, with clear guidance on: Technical development Set pieces and performance preparation Sight reading and rhythmic accuracy Aural skills and stylistic awareness Grades are offered as an option rather than a requirement, allowing lessons to remain flexible while maintaining a clear sense of progression. All lessons take place on a one-to-one basis in a professional, well-equipped teaching environment. I aim to create a focused and supportive atmosphere in which students can progress at an appropriate pace and develop a strong, long-term relationship with their instrument.

Hello my name is Franck Alba. I am a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter music teacher and producer. Born in France but a resident of South London since the 1990’s, I have etched out a formidable portfolio, which includes recording with the seminal DJ/producer Andrew Weatherall and with my own groups, Low Road and Fireflies (the latter’s music was recently featured in the popular BBC One tv series, ‘Killing Eve‘). As a member of the Anglo-French ghostrock group, Piano Magic, from 2002 to 2016, I toured numerous times across the Continent and played as far and wide as Moscow and Istanbul. I am also featured on six of the band’s studio albums and a whole plethora of associated recordings, collaborating with the likes of Dead Can Dance, Low, John Grant and Vashti Bunyan. Though I began studying violin at the age of six, I fell headfirst in love with guitars in my early teens. At 16, heavily influenced by artists such as The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode, Nick Drake, The Durutti Column and many more, I formed my first bands, ‘Siamese Angels’ and ‘Something Else’ . Before long, whilst studying at the jazz music school IMFP in Salon de Provence, I began playing professional concerts around his native south of France. On moving to London in the late 90’s, I joined various short-lived bands and cut my teeth playing extensively on the city’s buzzing live circuit. My most recent work includes writing and recording for Theory of ghosts EP 1 & 2 (2019-2020) and a full Album coming out January 2026, recording sessions for Andrew Weatherall’s 2014-2019, acclaimed solo album ‘Convenanza’ ,various remixes and live performances with the Woodleigh Research Facility (WRF). I am currently collaborating with innumerable artists, singer-songwriters, film makers alongside working on my solo albums. I have been teaching guitar, bass, drums, singing, music theory and improvisation for more than 20 years beside my own music career.
