Qualifications: I have a BMUS degree in Popular Music Performance and have lots of experiences playing and recording with bands and touring around the globe.
I am a friendly, patient and encouraging drum teacher based in Richmond, South West London, offering one-to-one drum lessons for beginners, children, teenagers, adult beginners and returning adults. My lessons are designed to help students build confidence, rhythm, timing, coordination and musical enjoyment in a calm, supportive and structured way. Whether you are picking up drumsticks for the first time, coming back to drumming after years away, or looking for private drum lessons for your child, my aim is to make learning the drums feel enjoyable, practical and achievable from the very beginning. I have many years’ playing and learning experience, from recording (I used to have my own recording and rehearsal studio) to playing live in a huge variety of venues. I started playing and learning in my teens and am comfortable across a wide range of modern styles - from rock to funk to blues and soul to jazz. That real-world experience shapes the way I teach. I focus on helping students play real grooves, practise with favourite songs, improve feel and timing, and understand what it actually feels like to be a drummer — not just someone doing exercises on a drum kit. My approach is particularly suited to beginners and developing players who want lessons that are clear, relaxed and confidence-building. We work step by step on the essential foundations of drumming: basic beats, coordination, rhythm, timing, technique, fills, dynamics, groove and musicality. But everything is connected to real playing, real music and steady progress. For younger students and teenagers, I aim to create lessons that feel positive, motivating and never intimidating. Students are encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, try things out and gradually build the confidence to play along to music they enjoy. For parents, I offer a calm, professional and supportive learning environment where progress is built patiently and realistically. For adult beginners and returning adults, I understand that starting or restarting an instrument can feel slightly daunting. Lessons are friendly, flexible and built around your goals — whether that means learning favourite songs, improving coordination, playing for enjoyment, developing better groove, or gaining the confidence to play with other musicians. I teach in-person drum lessons from a dedicated teaching studio in Richmond, within easy reach of Kingston and the wider South West London area. Lessons are one-to-one, structured around each student’s level, confidence and musical interests. I am also a Rockschool Associate Tutor, and can support students who may wish to work towards graded drum exams, while keeping the main focus on enjoyment, confidence, rhythm and practical musicianship. Above all, I want students to feel that drumming is something they can do. With the right support, beginners can start playing simple beats, enjoying real songs and feeling like drummers much sooner than they may expect.
My lessons are designed to teach you a specific skillset, step by step with guidance and accountability, classically structured for beginners and advanced players. Whether you want to improve your speed, fills, grooves, independence or technique, my live sessions are a great place to start. Lessons for advanced drummers or with little to no experience. Lessons for any age. Qualifications: Bachelor of Music Degree
“When I was a kid I wanted to be a drummer. Why? Well drumming seemed like a cool thing to do at the time. Later I realised that there was more to it than just being cool. I’m not sure why music makes us feel the way we do, it’s still kind of a mystery. The more I played, the more I didn’t want to stop, and the more I learned, the more I was thirsty for more. All it takes is some curiosity, a bit of hard work and a point in the right direction.” Sass graduated from the Academy of Contemporary Music in 2004. With a BA Honours Degree in Drums under his belt and has since been establishing himself as a session drummer around London. From recording sessions for films, to performing live, his experience in all aspects of drumming has given him the ability to assist drummers in finding a clear way along their musical development. Qualifications:
Music has been a major part of my life since I was 12 years old when I had my first drumming lesson. Throughout the years I have experienced, educated myself and pushed myself to become a better drummer and musician. My journey with drums started at a small school called Foundation Groove, founded by my drum tutor James De Lovell. There I learnt the basics of drumming which sparked my love for it. I was involved in lots of shows and drum clinics for all ages to learn, play and grow with other drummers and musicians. I was also studying music at my Secondary School and completed it at the CXC level. From there I then applied at the Barbados Community College (BCC) in Applied Arts Music. I gained great experience playing in multiple ensembles, each with their own style and genre of music. I was able to play at different cultural events such as the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) run by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) Barbados and be a part of the Youth Pan Project Seniors. This gave me the opportunity to understand myself more and what it’s like to be a part of a band. The college opened my eyes more to the music industry and the challenges that come when pursuing to being a successful musician. Constant rehearsing, studying and practising to ensure you were ready to create and strive on your own. After my 2 years at BCC, I joined my first local band called Jenn and 166. A rock band. During my time with them, we won a competition against another popular band called Masala. Hosted by Chum FM Breakfast in Barbados, a Canadian radio station. We were chosen to open the concert for One Republic held at Holders House, Barbados. This gave me more insight into band progress, musicianship, exposure and experience on stage in front of thousands. I then took the opportunity to create my own band called Tranzishun (transition). With each band member specialized in different genres of music, we were able to take the multi-genre band across Barbados performing at various venues, restaurants, hotels and cultural events. We were also able to be the backing band for famous British R&B Artists, MBE Omar Lye-Fook, Don-E and Carol Thompson at the London Elite All White Party in Barbados. I later joined another band called Kalead and Kayaweh. A Reggae based band. We toured Jamaica for Reggae Month in February 2018. We attended multiple live radio sessions, interviews, live performances and collaborations. We also recorded with upcoming artists and met Dre Tosh (Peter Tosh’s grandson) at the Tuff Gong studio founded by Bob Marley in Kensington Jamaica. We were able to watch live performances by famous artists such as Luciano the Messenjah, Taurus Rilley and many others. Through all my experiences I was able to share my talent and my love for music with others. I was able to witness professionals and learn from them, I was able to connect to different artists and cultures and add to my own style of play. I love all genres of music and I’m very versatile because of my experiences. I have also taught younger children as a way to give back what I have learnt over the years. I enjoy the interaction and enthusiasm of the children I teach and will continue doing so.
