Hello! My name is Vasilije, and I’m a professional accordionist with over 15 years of dedicated teaching experience. The accordion has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember, and throughout the years it has become not just an instrument I play, but a true extension of who I am. I’ve devoted countless hours to mastering its expressive possibilities, from the gentle whisper of the bellows to the powerful, resonant chords that can fill an entire room with emotion. Now, one of my greatest passions is sharing that knowledge and love for the instrument with others through teaching. My musical journey has taken me through many genres and performance settings. I’ve played classical repertoire that demands precision and elegance, traditional folk tunes full of cultural character, energetic jazz pieces bursting with improvisation, and even modern and experimental styles that push the accordion into new territories. This wide range of experience allows me to bring a flexible and well-rounded approach to my lessons. Whether you’re a complete beginner learning how to hold the instrument for the first time, or an advanced musician looking to refine technique, expand repertoire, or develop a more expressive voice, I shape each lesson around your unique goals and personal learning style. I truly believe music is one of the most powerful ways to communicate and express emotion. The accordion, with its warm tone and dynamic range, has a voice unlike any other. Teaching gives me the opportunity to help students discover that voice for themselves. One of the most rewarding parts of being an instructor is witnessing those small but meaningful moments—when a student finally plays a piece smoothly, understands a new concept, or feels confident creating music on their own. Those moments remind me why I love what I do. In my lessons, I focus on a balance of solid technique and musical expression. We’ll work on proper hand positioning, efficient finger movement, bellows control, articulation, rhythm, phrasing, and dynamics. When helpful, we’ll explore music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and even improvisation. I make sure each session stays engaging by using a variety of materials—sheet music, listening exercises, play-along tracks, and creative challenges—to keep learning enjoyable and motivating. I pride myself on being patient, supportive, and adaptable. Every student learns differently, and part of my job as a teacher is to help you find your own path with the instrument. Whether your dream is to play classical pieces, folk melodies, jazz standards, or your own compositions, I’m here to guide you every step of the way. With my experience, personalized approach, and genuine passion for teaching, you’ll develop a strong musical foundation while also discovering your own unique voice on the accordion. Let’s make music together! I’d be honored to be part of your musical journey.

I am a drummer and drum teacher based in Edinburgh. I started playing music at the age of 8, and it has always been the greatest joy of my life. I have a thorough knowledge of many instruments, including accordion (under the guide of Maestro Giuseppe Piccirilli for 10 years), handpan, and my favourite of them all, the drums. I have been a drummer for years now, with the studio, live and teaching experience both in Italy and the UK. My ongoing project is the release of a full album with my newly formed punk rock band. As much as I love this instrument, I am well aware that is challenging and extremely rewarding, therefore I would like to contribute in the self-development of others as a teacher. I am passionate, and I assure you that every lesson will bring something new to the table. I take students of all ages and levels, and in my lessons I teach the basics as well as the different styles (such as rock, pop, metal and funk), making sure that each music program is tailored for that particular student. I have recently completed a diploma in teaching Music Level 4. Accordion lessons: what to expect

Accordion lessons near you

Search for local accordion teachers who teach folk, classical, or contemporary accordion playing. In-person lessons are ideal for instrument setup, while online lessons suit repertoire and technique work.

Who accordion lessons are for

Accordion lessons suit beginners through to advanced players, adults and children who enjoy folk, world music or classical arrangements. Lessons can be adapted for accompanists and soloists.

What you’ll learn in accordion lessons

You’ll develop bellows technique, right-hand melody, left-hand accompaniment patterns, rhythm, and musical expression tailored to your chosen repertoire.

Online vs in-person accordion lessons

In-person lessons are useful for instrument maintenance and hands-on technique. Online lessons work well for learning repertoire, phrasing and theory via clear video and recorded examples.

A simple learning path for accordion

A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.

Weeks 1–4: Essentials
1

Learn bellows control, basic right-hand patterns, simple left-hand bass accompaniment and posture to develop clean tone and phrasing.

Months 2–4: Repertoire & technique
2

Develop fluency with common folk tunes, chordal accompaniment, scales and articulation; explore phrasing and dynamics.

Months 4+: Style & performance
3

Refine ornamentation, advanced fingering, ensemble skills and prepare performance pieces or recordings in your chosen style.

Getting started: what you need

Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.

  • A working piano- or button-accordion sized to the player; ensure bellows and reeds are in good condition.
  • A supportive strap and comfortable seating to maintain relaxed posture for technique and bellows control.
  • Record practice sessions to monitor phrasing and rhythmic consistency.

FAQs about accordion lessons

Can I learn accordion online?

Yes — online lessons are effective for learning repertoire and technique when your teacher provides clear demonstrations and recorded examples.

What size accordion should I buy?

Choose a size appropriate for the player: smaller button or 26–34 bass instruments for children, full-size for adults depending on repertoire and comfort.

Do I need prior keyboard skills?

No — while keyboard experience helps, many players successfully learn from scratch with focused technique and coordination exercises.
