Piano Teacher in Cambridge
Email: [email protected]
One day at the age of 8, I sat down at the family piano, picked up a copy of Beethoven’s popularly known ‘Moonlight Sonata’ and taught myself to play the first movement. I’d never played before but the sheet music was annotated with note names by one of the musicians or music lovers that I had been surrounded by in my family, and this first playing experience became one of my most joyful childhood memories.
After a few years of playing, accompanying and taking grades I began teaching my friends. So began a 30+ year teaching career which has been fuelled by the mutual excitement of discovering the skills for bringing beautiful music, favourite melodies and challenging technical demands into our own hands.
Since those early days, I have taught in schools and homes, both piano and music theory to all who wish to learn. From preschoolers, school starters, school leavers, university students, teachers, doctors, mothers with babies on their knees, fathers with toddlers standing at the end of the keyboard to retirees now able to follow a lifelong dream.
I teach classical, pop and musical theatre repertoire. I teach according to each musician’s own developing musical identity and I teach the importance of supportive posture, technical skills and musicianship. A lifetime of playing has taught me that freedom of musical movement and vitality is built on strength, flexibility and authentically expressing your own musical voice.
What is it you would like to play? How about the moody depths of some Brahms or Beethoven? The running counterpoint of Bach? Maybe a good belter from Phantom or Les Mis? Or perhaps some Elton John or Carole King? …..There is a vast musical world out there, let’s go discover!

I have known Nicky for approximately 15 years, our children were at school together and we became friends. I find her to be a conscientious person who know has lots of experience at giving lessons She is kind and patient but also very approachable to adults and children.
Nicky has been teaching me to play the piano for the last 3 years. I am a mature student with no previous history of playing a musical instrument and Nicky is always encouraging and demonstrates endless patience. I would certainly recommend Nicky as a tutor.
Nicky is an extremely talented teacher. She taught me piano for over 6 years and I was always impressed how she tailored her teaching to my needs and requirements. She is a lovely and warm person too, meaning that I never felt awkward in having to tell her that I didn’t understand something or asking her to go over something for a second or even third time. I recommend Nicky 100%!
