My Mission

Experienced Teacher

Fun and friendly singing tutor based in Impington, Cambridge. I am delighted to teach students of all ages and abilities, one-to-one or in small groups, and always tailor my lessons to suit the needs and interests of my students. I can help students to discover their voices for the first time, build their confidence, prepare for auditions and performances and progress through exams. I can also teach beginner musicians how to read music. I am a classically trained soprano, and have recently completed my studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Alexander Gibson Opera School. I enjoy a busy career as a performer, and have recently appeared with Northern Opera Group, Pop-Up Opera, Edvard Gried Kor and Bergen National Opera.

An experienced tutor, I enjoy working with aspiring singers of all ages and abilities in order to help people sing the music they love in the healthiest way possible. I am happy to work on a wide range of repertoire, including opera and classical pieces, musical theatre repertoire, pop and film music, jazz standards and anything in between. I can help prepare pupils for concerts and exams, and teach the building blocks of music to anyone wanting to learn how to read music and get a grasp of basic music theory.

I have taught privately for over six years, and have also held posts in various schools as a peripatetic singing teacher. My pupils all sing for pleasure, and I have also helped many of them to attain qualifications at a high level. Many of my pupils have taken ABRSM singing exams, from Prep Test to Grade 8, with a 100% pass rate. I have also helped past pupils to secure choral scholarships at Oxford University and places at the BRIT School. In addition, I have completed training with Sing To Beat, an organisation that champions the use of singing for those living with Parkinson's disease and Covid. The physical and mental health benefits of singing are well-documented, with fascinating research available on the subject. If you or someone you know would like to explore how singing could be used to improve breath, posture, stamina and mental well-being, please do get in touch.

My Lessons

Technical development, Performance & Musicianship

I begin each lesson with a series of physical and vocal warm-ups and technical exercises. Attention is paid to posture, breath support and healthy, free production of sound. As every voice is unique, the exercises are always tailored to each student and are easy to practice at home between lessons.

I can teach novice musicians how to read musical notation and understand basic music theory and can help students to develop their aural skills also. I also ensure that when tackling repertoire, my students develop a high standard of rhythmic and melodic accuracy and that they understand the way in which their song is structured.

The really fun part! I work with my students to foster their ability to interpret a song and make it their own. We work together to hone their artistry and musicality, exploring different approaches to storytelling as well as working on creating a wide range of expressive vocal colours with which to paint the words they sing. I can also help students to overcome stage fright and nervousness, and built confidence and stage presence.

More About My Lessons

I am always delighted to work with intermediate and advanced students who wish to pursue classical singing at a high level. Through my own training and professional work as a classical singer, I have a wealth of information to share regarding vocal technique, repertoire (anything from early music to contemporary compositions) and performance techniques.

I am here to help you achieve your goals as you continue your musical development, whether you aim to complete ABRSM qualifications, gain choral scholarships, entry into university/conservatoire or prepare audition repertoire.

Intermediate and advanced students can expect lots of technical work in our lessons together, with a continued emphasis on healthy singing, connection to breath and body and the development of even, beautiful tone across the vocal range. Exercises are personalised to each student’s vocal requirements. There is also an increased emphasis on artistic interpretation and performance skills, including work on singing in languages other than English.

I can help you to

Teaching enables me to work on repertoire that I love, but wouldn't usually get to perform (current examples include Disney classics, numbers from Hamilton and Waitress and Elvis songs!). The variety of pieces and styles my students are working on brings an element of challenge to my teaching that I really enjoy. But most of all, I love watching a student's confidence grow as lessons progress and their voices develop.
