About Me

About

My love for music originated in childhood when I was a member of the choir of a music school and we often participated in city song competitions, as well as in the Estonian Song Festival traditionally held every four years. I will never forget this special feeling of singing in the choir of several hundred participants.

Years later I graduated from Narva Music School and Tallinn Georg Ots Music School in Estonia where I studied classical piano as my 1st instrument, popular piano, and Estonian traditional instrument kannel as my 2nd choice. Among my most significant performances at that date were participation in the International Chopin Competition, as well as second place on the Estonian Radio 4 channel in the category of French piano music.

Life later took me to the University of Hull, where the world of opera and musical theatre opened its doors for me. I began to actively participate in opera and operetta productions, festivals, and concerts organized by the music and drama department. After graduation, I continued to participate in Opera 17 group, Hull Savoyards Operatic Society, and Hull Minster Choir. In addition to singing, I worked as an accompanist in New County Choir, Priory Park Singers Choir, and as a pianist in Hull Unitarian Church. I was also fortunate enough to temporarily work with Hull Minster Children’s Choir, assisting the music director.

I confess that at the present moment of my musical career I do not adhere to a strictly defined genre. Since I sometimes write my own music, I really like to combine styles and techniques. For example, I recently performed at a Chinese Whispers concert as a mezzo-soprano in a trio with piano and violin. Before that, we were back from touring in the UK with our indie folk band Goodnight Vincent, where I play keyboards and sing.

I work as a peripatetic piano and singing teacher in a studio, at St Mary’s college, as well as privately. I am also an accompanist in Hull Savoyards Operatic society, as well as in New County choir under the direction of Stan Kell.

About My Piano Lessons

My piano lessons usually include several techniques such as sight-reading, playing by ear, and some improvisation. This approach gives students the freedom and opportunity to become an all-rounded musician, performing different music. At the same time, at the request of the student, we can focus on the classical repertoire and prepare for exams.

Especially when it comes to children, I use a holistic teaching approach. My students also study ear training (solfege) and music theory. As a graduate of Narva School of Music, which is based on the teaching methodology of The St. Petersburg State Conservatory, I consider an integrated approach to teaching necessary. We also participate in local talent competitions with my students.

About My Singing Lessons

My singing lessons will do for those who are interested in classical voice training, as well as singers of other genres. It is my deep conviction that it is opera/ classical singing that unlocks the potential of the voice. After mastering the bel canto technique, it is possible to create anything with your voice, including singing jazz and pop music. I confess that I myself perform, and also sometimes write songs in different genres, and I am ready to experiment.

I can’t wait for you in my lessons to share my knowledge and experience.
