My name is Matthew and I'm a singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. I studied Music Performance at college before I graduated from Newcastle University in 2010.
After graduating I established myself as a regular performer in bars and venues across the north-east. Alongside my performing I have taught singing to students from across the city, helping them to develop their singing ability and giving them the confidence they needed to sing without fear.

I cover a wide array of different musical styles, enabling my students to learn the songs that inspired them to start singing lessons. I blend these student lead song choices with technical exercises and tips that I have learned over the many years of teaching and performing, helping my students to rapidly develop their vocal strength and find their unique singing tone.
I can also help students who are interested in songwriting, as well as playing guitar alongside their singing. I have a holistic approach to music and teaching music, being lead by the goals of the students and carefully building courses of lessons to meet those targets.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome complete beginners, including very shy singers who perhaps haven't sung fulling in front of another person before. My lessons are focused on building vocal control and confidence to help you excel and find your voice.

I've always been interested in music since a young age and my interest really heightened as I got older. I live and breath every aspect of singing and love to teach people and help them grow as a player.
This blend of self-teaching and taking the academic route gives me quite a unique perspective on how to help students of all backgrounds to develop their voice, as well which specific exercises and songs can help them to achieve this.
I love to perform live and this is something I try to get everyone to do if interested. I can help you build confidence and build everything you need to be a great singer.
I also welcome advanced singers to take my lessons.
I've worked in schools, providing workshops that support the music curriculum, but also offer some light-hearted relief from the day-to-day grind of pursuing grades & qualifications. My lessons are a relaxed environment but always aim to provide a challenge.
I cater my lessons to the student's learning style, be that through sheet music or any other means.
This approach enables me to provide a course of lessons that is ideally suited to each individual learners goals, musical interests and inspiration for wanting to learn to sing. It is also a holistic approach to learning, drawing on many different aspects of music to help a student to find their own unique voice.

There is a variety of Music shops in Newcastle able to help musicians to find the equipment and resources that they need to practice and perform.
JG Windows is a great example of a local music shop here in Newcastle, located on 1-7 Central Arcade, NE1 5BP. Founded in 1908 this is the city's largest Music Shop selling a wide variety of musical instruments, microphones and PA equipment.
Another great Music Store is PMT Music Newcastle on 27-29 Dean St, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 1PQ. One of the UK's largest music chains, you will find everything the modern singer needs from Microphones and keyboards to DJ Equipment.
Lastly, there is Guitar Guitar in Newcastle on 27 Grainger St, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 5JE. Another fantastic chain store. You can buy everything here from music books to home recording equipment.
As a performer I know how it feels to be nervous about singing in front of people, however, I can show you how to build you confidence and singing ability so that when you want to hit a note your voice is able to deliver on it. I ensure that my students feel relaxed in my lessons, building courses of lessons for them that will help them to develop their vocal ability in way that safe and constructive.

My lessons cost £15 per 1/2 hour or £30.00 per hour.
I offer lessons from my home teaching space located in the NE1 7DE area. My full teaching address will be provided upon booking your first singing lesson.
I welcome students from the ages of 10 years old and upwards, including many adult learners. You can never be too old to learn to sing, so even if you are an adult beginner with no prior experience you are still welcome to attend lessons.
Lesson frequency is set by the student, so you can attend lessons as often as you wish to. Most students take weekly or fortnightly lessons to ensure a consistent development of their vocal ability.
I operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, whereby lessons cancelled within 48 hours of the arranged lesson time are charged the full price.
