About

About

I’m Rahul and I’m based in York. I began to play the guitar when I was 14 years old. I remember hearing Samba Pa Ti by Santana on my dad’s Vinyl player and was immediately engrossed. Since then, guitar-driven music has been my biggest passion. My musical influences are taken from a range of genres from Pop to Heavy Metal, as I feel that the instrument is versatile enough to suit a wide range of styles.

As a musician, I have played in a variety of different bands from a Black Sabbath tribute band to a modern dance funk group, alongside recording original solo pieces. These bands and many others have allowed me to play alongside people from different backgrounds, ages, and genres. More formally, I studied music at the degree level. It was at university that I developed an understanding between theory, intricate harmony, complex rhythms and virtuosic playing and this experience allowed me to become the dedicated musician that I am today.

I have a variety of guitar teaching experience, from teaching pupils in larger groups to one-to-one lessons with individual students tailored to their individual needs. I have experience teaching students of different ages and abilities ranging from primary school age to adults and complete beginners to more advanced players. Recently, I have created a purpose-built recording studio, a perfect space for high-quality lessons away from distractions.

Students can expect their lessons to be tailored to their needs and enjoyment. Lessons will be unique to the individual.

What my lessons can offer:

  • Understanding music theory to a high degree
  • Putting theory and performance together via songwriting, improvisation, and aural skills.
  • Learn guitar in a variety of genres: Pop, Classic Rock, Rock and Roll, Blues, Jazz, Metal, and Djent.
  • Exploration of guitar techniques and phrasings such as Hammer-ons, pull-offs, natural harmonics, artificial harmonics, whammy bar techniques, slides, bends and many more.

My philosophy in teaching is to allow the student to become well-equipped with a sound understanding in all areas, which will ultimately lead to the student to becoming an independent musician.

All ages and abilities are welcome as I enjoy meeting new people who are enthusiastic about music.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

  • GCSE Music
  • GCSE Maths
  • GCSE English
  • AS Level Music
  • A Level Music Performance
  • BA Popular Music (University of Huddersfield, 2:1)

These qualifications have allowed me to appreciate a wide range of musical styles. My A and AS Levels in Music and Music Technology have given me an insight into music production and performance, which can help individuals that are looking to become self-reliant like myself. If students require support for their own GCSE in Music, help can also be provided in my lessons.

As well as my formal qualifications, I have played for a number of bands and events. Throughout school, I performed in school concerts and was a member of a school orchestra during school productions and performances. I have also played at weddings, charity functions as well as being hired by a large department store to play during a promotional event. While at university, I gained invaluable experience playing alongside many gifted musicians both within a band setting or in a solo project.

Upon leaving university I have played in various bands ranging from a Black Sabbath tribute band to an Americana rock group.

I became inspired to teach music from an early age as I was predominantly self-taught and noticed others finding difficulty in either understanding music theory or playing the guitar in a practical sense and believe that I can help any student achieve their ambition as a musician.
