Welcome to
Hi! I'm Chris Davies, a qualified and professional piano teacher with 40 years' experience based in the Aberdare area. I offer lessons to all levels and abilities across the age range from young beginners to adults wanting to develop a new skill.
I have worked as a piano teacher and professional performer for over 40 years and am passionate about teaching students of all ages and playing abilities. My attitude to teaching is first and foremost that it should be fun and engaging.
I taught for 30 years at the United World College of the Atlantic, a specialist international 6th form school near Llantwit Major where I was originally appointed "Pianist in Residence" before then becoming Head of Faculty for the Arts and Electives.

My lessons take place at my specialized teaching studio where, regardless of age or ability, students are able to learn on a first-class Steinway B grand piano. Learning on such a beautiful instrument is a truly inspiring experience for any pianist working on their craftsmanship.
I am keen to make every lesson informative but also fun and engaging. I work with teaching methods that emphasize freedom and relaxation, meaning that even a child beginner can come home from their first lesson with a simple piece ready to perform, something that is extremely moral-boosting.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I offer piano lessons to students of all ages and playing abilities. No matter what level you find yourself at, I want to guide you through your own musical journey.
In 2016 I was awarded the prestigious "Outstanding Educator" award from the University of Chicago. I have taught all levels from talented juniors at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, diploma students at the United World College of the Atlantic as well as child and adult beginners through private tuition.
My personal qualifications include Dip. RCM (Performance Diploma), ARCM (Piano Teaching) and Advanced Certificate of Performance (Postgraduate Diploma). I have also received numerous awards such as the RCM Concerto Prize, the John Ireland Prize and the Twentieth Century Ensemble Prize.
I have taught and worked with over 50 students to achieve their post grade 8 diploma. It is always fantastically rewarding seeing my students achieve such high and prestigious qualifications.
I teach using the well regarded and internationally famous "Russian" method, which has given the world some of its greatest performers. This method places emphasis from lesson one on freedom and relaxation. I strongly disagree that endlessly repeating patterns and exercises is the key to success.
This method of teaching allows students to feel engaged and passionate from the very beginning of their musical journey. Lessons in the early months focus on simple pieces, often of folk origin, that really develop piano skills, both technical and musical.
Regardless of your ability, I want you to come out of every lesson feeling optimistic and excited for the future. Learning the piano, or any instrument for that matter, should be fun and engaging at its core.
All lessons are given on a Steinway B grand piano. Find about more about these wonderful pianos below.
Steinway and Sons, founded in 1853 by a master craftsmen, is the most well-renowned and respected piano company in the world. They have always built their pianos in the same way, one at a time, using skills that get handed down from master to apprentice
The making of each and every piano takes upwards of one year to create. They take pride in the fact that nothing is rushed. The woods that they carefully select for the rims, tops, soundboards and actions cure for months whilst they stabilize in a specified moisture content.
It is absolutely no surprise that 19 in 20 concert pianists choose Steinway as their preferred piano. The Steinway B grand piano is often called "the perfect piano". It produces a perfect mix of size, power and versatility, making it a perfect choice in a teaching setting.
My experience and overall passion for music means that I am fully equipt to take on a student of any age or ability. I will ensure to tailor our lessons to help you as an individual develop and grow, not only as a pianist but as a musician in general.
