My Mission

Lessons Tailored To You

Hello, I’m Jamie, a professional drummer based in Kent with my own studio. I specialise in hard, heavy and occasionally very fast playing and have a range of experience working in professional studios with various bands. Before I got into the rock and metal scene I played jazz for two years in a band that toured the Isle of Wight. I then played metal for a few years and now typically play a lot more jazz, funk and pop as a freelance musician.

Know Your Way Around the Drum Kit

Fundamental Techniques

As your drum teacher, one of my main objectives is to ensure you have a solid foundation in fundamental drumming techniques. This includes learning how to properly hold your drumsticks, understanding basic strokes such as single strokes and double strokes, and mastering the essential rudiments.

These techniques are the building blocks that will carry you through any drumming style, whether it's jazz, rock, or classical. During our lessons, we'll practice these techniques thoroughly, allowing you to develop speed, control, and precision.

Applying Techniques to Different Genres

Different drumming genres require different skills, and I take pride in teaching versatile techniques that can be applied across the board. For example, in rock drumming, we'll focus on powerful backbeats and syncopated rhythms that drive the music forward.

If you're interested in jazz, we'll delve into more complex patterns like swing and brush techniques, which add a subtle texture to the music. My teaching is adaptable, reflecting the unique characteristics of each genre, ensuring that you become a well-rounded drummer.

Advanced Techniques for Seasoned Drummers

For those who are further along in their musical journey, I offer advanced techniques that will take your playing to the next level. This includes exploring polyrhythms, intricate fills, and the use of dynamic control to add emotion and depth to your performances.

Whether you're performing a guitar duet or drumming in a band, these advanced techniques will make you a standout performer. Our classes will be tailored to push your boundaries and tap into your full potential as a drummer.

Creativity and Personal Style

One of the most exciting aspects of learning the drums is developing your own personal style. As a teacher, I encourage creativity and will help you find your unique voice on the drum kit. This involves experimenting with different genres, trying out new patterns, and sometimes even breaking the rules of traditional drumming. My goal is to help you become not just a skilled drummer, but a true performer who can express themselves freely through music.

Real-World Applications

Beyond the classroom, my lessons prepare you for real-world performing experiences. Whether you're aiming to join a band, play in school events, or perform solo, the techniques you learn here will be directly applicable.

I'll provide you with practical advice on setting up your drum kit, tuning your drums, and even tips on stage presence. Together, we'll build your confidence so that you can perform effortlessly in front of an audience, no matter the genre or setting.

Learning the drums is a journey of endless possibilities, and I'm here to guide you every step of the way. Let's explore these techniques together and make your drumming dreams a reality!
