My Mission

Lessons Tailored To You

Hello, I’m Jamie, a professional drummer based in Kent with my own studio. I specialise in hard, heavy and occasionally very fast playing and have a range of experience working in professional studios with various bands. Before I got into the rock and metal scene I played jazz for two years in a band that toured the Isle of Wight. I then played metal for a few years and now typically play a lot more jazz, funk and pop as a freelance musician.

Student Advice

Receive Hands-On Drum Experience

In my lessons, I prioritise hands-on playing to boost drumming proficiency. Playing on a full drum kit in a sound-proof setting allows students to immerse themselves fully, helping them absorb techniques more naturally. I often start sessions with warm-up exercises using all their drum skins, followed by playing along with favourite songs to build confidence and rhythm.

As your drum teacher, I aim to create a space to experiment, students feel more relaxed, allowing their natural ability to shine through. Moreover, through several drumming tutorials, I emphasise reading music effectively, laying a strong foundation for students' musical journeys.

Whether your interest lies in the driving beats of rock, the intense pace of metal, or any other musical genre, you'll find a welcoming space to grow and develop your skills in my sound-proof studio.

Rock and Metal

Starting with rock and metal, these styles are characterised by their powerful rhythms and dynamic range. My own professional studio is fully equipped to tap into the energetic nature of these genres. Whether you're just getting started or looking to refine your style, my drum lessons provide immediate focus on hands-on playing. How to Make Lessons Fun for All

From the first lesson in my professional studio, I ensure that the experience is engaging and personalised. Understanding that each student has their own interests and goals, I tailor each session to hone in on what excites them about drumming. Whether a student wants to explore solo projects or delve into group rehearsal, I weave these personal preferences into our lessons to maintain enthusiasm and progression. Incorporating elements from various styles gives each lesson a fresh dynamic, making sure that students are always eager to attend the next lesson.

Incorporating Jamming Sessions

One of the key components of my drum lessons is the inclusion of jam sessions. Jamming not only makes lessons enjoyable but also strengthens a student's dexterity and improvisational skills. I've found that my students really thrive during these sessions, as they’re encouraged to explore various patterns and feel the essence of music deeply. It's moments like these, as a teacher with a career spanning two respected institutions, that I see as crucial for a budding drummer's development.

Encouragement and Support

I aim to be an encouraging and brilliant teacher, known for a patient manner and ability to inspire. Offering constant positive reinforcement, I celebrate each student’s progress, big or small. My aim is to cultivate a trustworthy environment where students feel both challenged and supported. This approach, combined with my dedication as a teacher in Canterbury, ensures that every lesson is not just about acquiring skills but embracing the joy of music. It's a journey where my entire life as a musician is shared with each aspiring drummer I teach.
