I understand that everyone learns at different speeds and that I can make sure my lessons are built around your ability level and age as well as a number of other factors.
I am currently in my final year of a BA Music degree at the University of Southampton. I will use my experience learning and playing to make sure your lessons are always of a high standard. I know many good ways to learn and like to adjust my teaching style accordingly. If students ever have any questions, I'm always happy to answer and can talk through anything as many times as you might need.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginners and advanced players to take my lessons. I wil always make sure that I make a lesson plan that suits your learning level and style.
Having grown up with music at the centre of our household I was encouraged to engage with music from a young age and cannot imagine it ever not being a key aspect of my life. I started piano at age 5 and after hitting a bump in the road with motivation a few years later, I decided to switch to jazz piano lessons and find my love of music again.
Studying jazz piano really opened my eyes to the volume of music out there and how diverse it could be. The love of jazz that came out of this experience was a key factor in the decision to swap my violin in for double bass! In the sixth form, my interest in music expanded further and I was lucky enough to be in several orchestras, a big band and a jazz band. This expanded my personal repertoire massively and my knowledge of different genres and music history really developed. This encouraged me to complete an EPQ (Extended Personal Qualification) on the history of tonality in my final year at school.
My experience in so many different musical settings has really inspired me to take a more holistic view of music, seeing it as all linked together even when genres could not be further apart. I would love to be able to inspire and help aspiring musicians in the same way that I have been throughout my life.
Prior to my degree, I have achieved grade 8 in both classical piano and classical double bass passing both exams with a distinction. I have also achieved grade 5 jazz piano with distinction and passed my grade 5 theory.
During my time in the sixth form, I was also fortunate enough to be accepted into Britten Sinfonia Academy which was an incredible experience. Through this, I was exposed to professional musicians of a very high standard and also toured England in the summer of 2019 performing in places such as Cambridge, Norwich and London.
I have been in a variety of ensembles including symphony orchestras, string orchestras, chamber string groups, big bands, jazz trios and pop bands meaning I have a vast knowledge of different musical settings. I also completed an EPQ (Extended Personal Qualification) on the history of tonality which was awarded an A*.
We are lucky enough to have a good range of music shops in the area. Here are a few I would recommend.
