My name is Kit Rivington and I am an experienced Bass guitar player and teacher and I am currently offering lessons for students of all ages and abilities from 8+. My bass lessons are built around the music and styles that you enjoy, I will make sure we build a lesson plan that w can both agree on and that we both enjoy.
I am very passionate about music and have played/studied the Bass, Electric and Acoustic guitars for a long time. I currently have experience in playing flamenco guitar and these skills have proven very useful in allowing me to provide detailed, thorough and informative lessons. Above all I want you to enjoy what you're learning & because of this, my lessons will always go in the direction that you want them to. I aim to provide high quality tuition for all of my students.
I think that music is a great way to help your mental health and over all health, music is one of the main things that kept me sane during 2020 & I love for my students to also feel that same connection with learning to play. Music has long been one of the best ways to feel good about yourself and de-stress if you ever find yourself in a position where you need to.

I pride myself on offering the highest quality bass lessons possible. I always tailor my lesson plans to match that specific student as I understand we all have different tastes and different goals when it comes to learning an instrument and as such I will adapt the lessons to suit this accordingly!
With the skills that I have developed through studying and performing the bass guitar for many years, I enjoy passing these skills on to others and helping to share that passion. Together we will find songs that you enjoy to play and we will study these, to ensure progress is always made and that you get the reward of the song itself at the end.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
No matter what stage you are at, whether you've never played a Bass guitar before or if you've been playing for years and just want to move to the next step, my lessons cater for students at any level. I also teach in a wide variety of styles and genres such as Flamenco, Classical, Folk, Gypsy Jazz, Pop & even songwriting if that's something that you're interested in.

Music is one of the few things in this world that make sense to me, & I love helping others make sense of it. Certainly, it has been music that has kept me sane throughout 2020 as (& this applies to all levels of musicianship) being able to pick up an instrument and engage with the infinite world of rhythm, melody & harmony allows us as musicians to act as our own personal sound therapists. From my perspective, bettering your musical skills is akin to eating healthy and keeping fit. It is something all humans should engage with for their own personal, spiritual benefit.
My main personal influence for guitar is predominantly from the Spanish style of Flamenco. Whilst living in Spain for two years I fell in love with flamenco and it has since become a personal lifetime study. Another personal musical pursuit is my learning of the national instrument of Mongolia, the Morin Khuur (Horsehead Fiddle).
In 2019 I travelled to Mongolia to buy my Morin Khuur, receive lessons whilst there & hear some of the beautiful music of Mongolia firsthand. I am currently navigating myself through the world of music production in order to fuse these two styles. Also, as part of my university course, I am studying the bass guitar as my first study instrument. I chose this instrument so I could better understand the harmonic structure in music. These pursuits have kept me very well entertained, & I hope that I can share my enthusiasm for music with many more students and musicians as the years continue forward.
More Complex Basslines, Composition and Performance, Music Theory
Rather than learning notes note by note from a page, I encourage students to explore music in a more free and personal way. This approach to teaching allows the student to progress in a more creative manner, and sound original sooner.
I enjoy teaching various styles of music as it often presses me to better understand a genre that a student is interested in. I also love helping students find new music to inspire them as a constant stream of inspiration is key to maintaining enthusiasm.
In my lessons I do like to use the skills I have developed from performing and incorporate other elements such as performance techniques, composition tips etc as I feel these are crucial elements in to improving as an overall musician. I should also mention that together with my two brothers I make up a third of the comedic gipsy bardic group, Rusty Compass. Our music is available on Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music ect.
I feel confident that my lessons can cater for all students and that I can offer insight on just about any musical topic you may want to study.

The lessons are £11.50 for half an hour or £23 for an hour.
I do offer some lessons from my home teaching space, the details for this are provided upon booking you're first lesson. I am also happy to travel to you for the lessons so you can learn from the comfort of your own home.
I welcome students of all levels aged 7 upwards.
You can take the lessons however suits you, but I would recommend that one Hour a week allows for the most consistent progress.
Any lesson cancelled within 48 hours can still be charged for, but I am happy to be flexible and rearrange cancelled lessons where possible.
