Hello, my name is Rory and I’m a guitarist and bassist based in Belfast. I am also a guitar teacher and a bass teacher.

Having been surrounded by Folk music my whole life, I always found music to be an internal part of my everyday life and found the creation of something so profound purely out of emotion and feeling an absolutely magical idea. When I started to delve deeply into Rock music, my attitude became stronger as I saw an opportunity for anyone who was interested and dedicated in that ideal of creativity and imagination. I first picked up the bass at the age of fourteen and began playing the guitar later at sixteen.

However, like most beginner musicians, I found it difficult to get my bearings at the start and with the wealth of information available. It could be overwhelming at times. Doing music lessons from the age of sixteen really developed my skills not just as a guitarist and bassist, but as a musician overall. Once I began to understand why musical ideas sound and work the way they do, this unlocked a greater level of creativity and appreciation of my instruments. This nurtured my confidence to an amazing level which encouraged me to play with and seek out other like-minded musicians who shared the same passion and dedication to the world of music. Ever since, I have always played in bands and wrote songs as a group and by myself, purely out of the enjoyment and the satisfaction that such ventures give to those that take an interest in playing an instrument.

On a social level, when a group of musicians gather and communicate without words, it is a truly special feeling. On a personal level, learning and developing your music skills offers a chance for you to put your experience and story into something tangible and real. It is this creativity and enjoyment that comes from playing I strongly wish to harbour, while also teaching the fundamentals of music that gets musicians going on their journey.

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

• 10 years experience playing bass guitar and 8 years playing guitar which have been developed through professional music lessons.
• Played in a number of bands, most recently The Cortez which we’ve completed an EP released in 2018, a number of live gigs in Belfast and currently writing and recording a new EP release.

As a musician, I am proud of creating and continuing to create real and palpable stories in music and playing live shows that offer the opportunity to share these stories and my love of music with strangers and friends.
