About

Under the moniker A Higher Note LLC, Natalie Eastman has enthusiastically and clearly taught people to sing, and helped singers to sing better, for 24 years. Her client list includes two Miss America contestants and many gigging artists, as well as singers who offer their voices locally in community choruses; church worship teams, choirs, and cantors; bands performing in many genres; weddings and special events; music theatre; karaoke; busking; vocal competitions; and other extraordinary, engaging, and entertaining performances.

Dr Eastman has performed in both leads and supporting roles, as well as in the choruses in community-theatre musicals, summer-stock style musicals, and other stage performances at churches and in schools; wedding and special events; dinner theatre in D.C.; Broadway-style entertainment on the Spirit of Washington cruise ship; choral societies; The Washington Savoyards, a Gilbert & Sullivan society; community chorus; university choruses; a cappella groups; select choirs; church choirs; worship bands and acoustic worship teams; and early childhood music education (Kindermusik(TM), Musical Adventures, and Music Together(TM), including owning a Kindermusik(TM) studio for several years).

Natalie has also performed as a soloist for many weddings, receptions, and other events and has been involved in all manner of meaningful, enjoyable – and fun – singing from early childhood throughout adulthood.

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

Natalie’s vocal studies include technique and performance under the late Earle and Norma Lowder (classical, spiritual, sacred, folk, and music theatre in both choral and solo settings), Gary Bradberry (classical, spiritual), Karen Schmidt (classical), Morris Beachy (classical), Bonnie Bradley (classical), David Troupe (music theatre, Broadway-style), Margaret Riddleberger (Bel Canto+Mizzar) and the late Jeannie Deva (contemporary). She has also self-studied to completion the published materials from several pedagogues and methods, including Estelle Liebling’s classic “Vocal Courses,” Seth Riggs’s “Singing for the Stars,” Jeannie Deva’s Contemporary Vocalist Course, Per Bristow’s “Sing with Freedom” and “The Singing Zone,” and Brett Manning’s “Singing Success.”

Natalie: “One of my proudest evenings as a performer and person, as well as one that filled me with humility, was when several musician friends and I organized and performed a concert benefitting the anti-human-trafficking efforts of WARInternational.org. I’ve supported W.A.R. International for about fourteen years and have the utmost respect for their mission and strategies. The volunteers and staff of W.A.R. work tirelessly to identify, rescue or shelter, and help restore the dignity and lives of women and children who have been or are at risk of being trafficked. Since a life-altering experience when my first child was born, anti-sex-trafficking has been a passion of mine, one I feel strongly about, pray about daily, and volunteer regularly to raise awareness around the issue and funds for the efforts. So, to participate in the effort by creating something lasting and beautiful with my voice was a joy. It felt like we were honouring these survivors and surrounding them musically in a circle of protection and God’s great love for them.”

“My 12 year old granddaughter has been a voice student of Natalie’s for two years. She started out a rather reluctant participant with all the confidence issues of most 10 year old girls. The changes in the last 2 years are nothing short of remarkable. I am beginning to see a confident, self-assured vocalist emerging. One of the most encouraging things about studying with Natalie is that she teaches her students more than singing. She concentrates on the theory and how to use their voice to their utmost. She is a very patient and caring individual and that is very evident in her teaching style. Due to her encouragement and instruction my granddaughter is now singing with joy and exuberance to groups of 25 – 500.”

“I came to Natalie tone-deaf, at 23 years old, with no singing experience, never having sung in a chorus or ensemble of any kind. I now have the technique and confidence to sing out whenever I have the time. My pitch, tone, and range have improved dramatically. If you take lessons from her, heed her advice, and practice diligently, you will not be disappointed.”

“I’ve been taking voice lessons from Natalie for a couple of months and just in the short time, I’ve improved my vocal technic and quality. I’m almost 40 years old and wish I would have started voice lessons a long time ago. There is so much more to singing than I realized. Natalie is extremely knowledgable, experienced and provides an easy and comfortable learning environment. She also video records each lesson so I can go back and practice exercises and recall our conversations and helpful tips. If you are thinking about voice lessons, I would recommend calling Natalie.”

“Our 7 year old has taken voice for over a year but recently started with Natalie. She has gone from refusing to sing in front of us to now singing in front of us, joyfully and excitedly. Natalie instills both fun and discipline into her lessons which is the best combination for building confidence in our budding singer.”

“One month into lessons for our daughter, we are definitely satisfied.” I wrote that almost a year ago after our daughter requested voice lessons for her birthday. 11 months later, we are thrilled with her growth as a singer. In the past year, we have seen remarkable growth in her ability, her confidence and, most importantly, her love of music. At 16, she may change her mind a dozen times, but she’s now considering a career in vocal music. A few months ago, she performed at the Ohio Music Educator Association’s Solo and Ensemble Competition. Her performance earned a Superior rating of 1 – the best grade possible. While Natalie did help her prepare for this specific contest, we are more impressed with the skills and exercises that will help her be a better singer for the rest of her life. More recently, our daughter performed a solo at a school function. We’re a bit biased, but we think she nailed it. Afterward, other parents asked us where she takes voice lessons, and we were happy to recommend Natalie. The best endorsement that we can give Natalie is that we now have 2 children taking voice lessons with her. Our middle child has been so impressed by the growth of her older sister, that she asked to take voice lessons also and definitely wanted to work with Natalie. A month in with child number 2, and we’re still satisfied!”
