About

About

My name is Jennifer Ferris and I am originally from Zimbabwe. I have had a passion for music all my life and began learning how to play the piano at the age of five. I am inspired by music and have been all my life. I believe it is important to have music in your life in whatever capacity most suits you. My greatest joy is to share my love of music and I have had the opportunity to do so even as a senior in high school.

I began to teach piano in my last year of high school as help was needed then and at university (Rhodes University, South Africa), I had several students ranging from age 4 to 15 at different levels of skill (from beginner to intermediate). I also taught a music and movement class at a Montessori school for 4 to 6 year-olds.

I then became a music teacher at the Peterhouse Group of Schools in Zimbabwe where I taught class music to 13-14 year-olds, conducted and accompanied orchestra, strings, wind band and various choirs, taught music theory and piano lessons. There I taught beginner piano pupils up to ABRSM grade 7 (one of my pupils obtained a Distinction in her grade 7 piano exam).

In 2018 I moved to the UK and obtained Qualified Teacher’s Status as a Music Teacher. Music has always been a part of my life; I love to sing (I have had the privilege of singing in many choirs), I learnt the violin, the oboe, recorder and two beautiful African instruments; the marimbas and mbira (thumb piano).

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

I obtained a Bachelor of Music at Rhodes University in 2017, I have my grade 8 piano (I did my exam through the University of South Africa, UNISA, exam board). I also have QTS as a music teacher and a Level 3 in the Early Years Foundation Stage. .

Music is a profound form of expression of self and I believe it is important to be able to do so. I would like to nurture a person’s joy in learning a new skill and being able to share that skill with others.
