Piano Teacher in Brighton
Email: [email protected]
My name is Ashley Kingsley. I’m a piano teacher based in Brighton, with a Masters degree from the Royal College of Music. I teach all ages from 7 and up, and I happily teach beginners to very advanced levels in all styles of music.
My experiences as a professional pianist have taught me that we are all different and unique in our tastes in music, so being very flexible is vastly important especially when teaching the piano.
I do believe that for beginners and school children it’s highly valuable to learn to read music.
Music notation is a unique language, so it’s important to understand the basics of this in order to lay down the foundations of your practise. I vastly encourage learning to play the music that interests you. In fact, I feel it’s mandatory to learn songs you love – after all, that’s why you’re learning right?
I strive to be as honest with students about there practise as possible and will always do this in a very gentle way. It’s vital that all students feel comfortable asking me when there is something they don’t understand and that they respect my opinion.
I keep parents up to date with every lesson. I encourage parents to observe lessons if they wish and to help with productive practise for their children. I also take notes on every lesson which can then be emailed to parents.
I am very easygoing as I remember having many piano teachers who I dreaded seeing! My goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and to learn in a fun environment.

We’re extremely lucky to have found such an incredibly talented piano teacher, who also plays professionally. It was important for us to find someone laid back, who was flexible and could teach many styles from classical to improvised chords and jazz. Ashley immediately hit it off with our teenage son and has brought out the best in his abilities. Our son has made rapid progress, loves practicing and can’t wait for his next lesson! Ashley has also been teaching him the music software: Logic Pro X, so he can record his own piano compositions. Our son (age 15) says: “Ashley is friendly, encouraging, teaches well and makes sure you understand”.
I have been a student of Ashley for over 2 years now and learned so much already, not only has Ashley helped me with Piano and musical theory but his guidance and lessons have helped me improve massively as a Artist, highly recommended.
As much as Sidh loves music, he is not very receptive to coaching from others, Ashley has been an exception to the rule, Ashley truly understands Sidhs psychology, pitches the right level of challenge, encourages his strengths and somehow strikes the right chord with him, im so glad we discovered him.
Thanks to Ashley our 10 year old daughter Savannah has made excellent progress over the past 6 months and has gained huge confidence playing the piano as well as sight reading. Ashley has broadened her appreciation of music by introducing her to a wide range of composer and genres, As parents it is a joy to see her motivated and enthusiastic about daily practise.
We are really happy to have run into Ashley in our search for a piano teacher. Ashley has been an amazing music teacher/guide to my sons. In person as well as in zoom. He is professional, consistent and patient. He started teaching my younger son during covid and online — which is a feat in itself. Thanks, Ashley
