Welcome to
Hello! My name is Kate Matthews and I provide professional singing lessons to students of all ages and abilities in the Stockport area.
I will make sure everything in our lessons is built around your specific style and personal goals for singing. We all have different tastes and aims when it comes to music so I think it's important that we are always studying the styles and artists that you enjoy to ensure you not only improve your singing technique, but are rewarded by being able to sing songs you love too.
I am an all round music lover in general and feel comfortable singing and performing in a wide range of styles. So no matter what you want from these lessons, they will be tailored and planned specifically around you. Together we can assess what your goals are from these singing lessons and every step we take will be heading in the direction that you want to go!

I have been teaching singing privately now for around 8 years and have worked with students of all skill levels and backgrounds. Having this experience has allowed me to grow my own singing skills and knowledge and now I feel comfortable in providing detailed tuition for all students.
I also have experience teaching singing in a musical theatre setting, utilizing many different techniques from other contemporary genres like pop. Studying musical theatre has introduced me to a whole plethora of other techniques that I've successfully passed on to many of many students, both young and old.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome students of all skill sets and ability, helping them to find their singing voice through lessons I have developed over several years. Whether you have never sang properly before in your life or you're just looking to move on to that next step my lessons can help you.
I am currently a full-time secondary school Performing Arts teacher primarily focusing on Musical Theatre and Dance. I currently hold a BA Hons Degree with first class honours in Musical Theatre and Dance. I have also been teaching Singing privately for around the last 8 years.
I take pride in dedicating a lot of time and effort into getting to you know properly, so that I can plan and tailor my lessons to make sure you're getting the most from the sessions that you possibly could be. Though my specialism is in Musical Theatre these skills absolutely transfer over to learning standard singing techniques too.
Whether you're just looking to become more tuneful, wanting to improve your pitching or your vibrato, no matter what stage of your singing journey you are at I am here to help! I have also recently started helping students prepare for auditions with London drama colleges and other musical theatres courses too.
My lessons also cater for more advanced students who already have singing experience. These classes would cover things like how to improve your breathing techniques, how to annunciate words with more clarity, vowel shaping and voice projection etc. Fine tuning these techniques can make a huge difference to your all round singing voice.
My audition preparation lessons not only help you improve your singing to a higher standard, but I will also provide you with hints and tips on getting through the one to one dialogue with the tutors in the interview, what you should wear on the day, how to present yourself in a professional manner and these sessions can run as a stand alone thing or alongside your normal sessions.
With your voice its very important to protect and reserve it as much as possible. If a guitar string breaks, you can restring it, if you damage your voice that can be a little more difficult to heal. Every lesson will start with a nice vocal warm up exercise to ensure we are not straining your voice too much and to help protect it for years to come.
As a singing it is always useful to know where you can pick up equipment to help you to gig and resources to help to continue to develop. Here in Stockport we have a small number of music shops that can help with this:
Grove Music, One store I would recommend would be Grove Music. This place is more of an all-round music store where you will find everything from guitars to sheet music to microphones. They are located on 269 London Rd, Hazel Grove, Stockport SK7 4PL.
Fab Music Store, would be another local option that I would recommend. This place mostly specialises in guitar sales but I understand that a lot of vocalists like to learn guitar as well as sing so if you are looking for a beginner guitar then this is the place to go. It is located on 74 Lower Hillgate, Stockport SK1 3AL.
I am a passionate singer and singing teacher who aims to help you to get the most out of your voice. To achieve this my sessions always start with a thorough warm-up where, especially for beginners, we will begin to develop your knowledge on how the voice works, how to get it working effectively and what exercises we can do to improve pitch, tone and clarity.
[email protected]Lessons are £18 for half an hour or £30 for an hour.
Due to Covid 19 all lessons are currently taking place Online. Otherwise I am a mobile tutor who is happy to travel to your home under normal circumstances.
I teach students of all ages 10+.
No you can attend lessons as and when you like. I would recommend one hour a week for the most consistent progress.
If for any reason you need to cancel or rearrange a session, this is absolutely fine if done more than 24 hours before your planned lesson. Payment for this class can then either be transferred to another lesson or refunded in full – if block payments have been made then refunds will be at the discounted rate.
Please feel free to contact me with any further questions you may have and we can book your first singing lesson today!
