About

About

Hello, my name is Sarah Dunbar and I am a professional singing teacher based in Cardiff, Wales. I have many years teaching experience, welcoming both young learners and adults to attend individually tailored singing lessons.

I focus my lessons on helping students to develop their vocal strength, control and confidence, building their technical ability up through combining singing the songs that they are interested in with the vocal exercises that help to improve a student’s technique.

My background is as an opera and classical singing, so I can certainly help students interested in learning these genres. I also teach contemporary styles of singing, like music theatre, jazz and folk.

I have studied a Vocal Performance Masters at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, helping me to develop an extensive technical understanding of how the voice works. This is blended with an extensive CV as a performing singer, enabling me to draw upon both the theory and the practical aspects of singing when teaching my lessons.

During my career onstage I have performed in numerous shows, often in front of large audiences, in venues across Europe. This includes playing Cleopatra in the UK world premiere of Hasse’s Marc Antonio e Cleopatra with Woodhouse Opera and working as a creative director of A La Canto, a singing waiters company that provides performances across the UK.

All of this experience performing feeds into the lessons that I teach, helping students to build confidence to sing infront of others and giving them tips around stagecraft and handling nerves.

I would be delighted to help you to learn to sing if you are interested, simply get in touch to find out more.

Sarah Dunbar is a wonderful vocal coach. We have had the privilege of watching her work with our daughter for around 15 months, and the extent to which she has developed and improved her voice is quite spectacular. Sarah bases her teaching style on an assessment of each individual pupil’s aims, aspirations and learning style, and tailors her tuition to fit. In my daughter’s case she managed to perfectly balance challenging her with making the lessons fun and enjoyable. As a working soprano, Sarah has a thorough understanding of how the music industry works and has a fantastic set of tips and tricks for making the best of auditions and performances. As a result of Sarah’s tuition our daughter is about to embark on a degree in classical singing at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire this autumn. Despite going away to university, you can be sure she has Sarah on speed-dial and will be staying in touch for extra masterclasses over zoom and during holidays!
