| About |
I am an experienced violin teacher of 30 years and am currently teaching at L’ecole de musique in Saint Laurent des Hommes and L’ecole de Musique in Mussidan, as well as internationally online. I can teach the violin in English or French
I have a wealth of teaching experience. I have had the pleasure of teaching township children for a year in Pretoria, South Africa – our students played for the inauguration of President Mbeki, with Nelson Mandela present. I have also taught many, many students privately and have been a peripatetic teacher in Wales and Scotland. Before moving to France I spent 5 years working for Sistema Scotland. A music program in the most disadvantaged areas of Scotland. There, I taught violin, conducted orchestras and had the pleasure of teaching general musicianship to all age groups (using the Kodaly method).
Before starting my family, alongside teaching I played the violin professionally for the New Arts Philharmonic Orchestra, Pretoria South Africa, and as a regular extra in Welsh National opera orchestra. Presently I play with ‘Arisan’,(a group consisting of violin, accordion, guitar and double bass), as well as a duo for violin a guitar.
I am classically trained with a BA(HONS) and a postgraduate performers diploma from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama as well as LLCM (teaching diploma from London College of music) and a performers diploma on the piano.
I had the good fortune to be mentored by Sheila Nelson in the 1990s, whilst I was writing a dissertation on teaching techniques. I also follow the methodology of Paul Rolland. During the last 10 years I have branched out and love to explore different styles, particularly celtic music.
I adore teaching and playing and like nothing more than seeing a student flourish and grow in confidence through the medium of music. I adapt my teaching to the needs of each individual. Presently my youngest student is 5 years old and my oldest student is 86.
