| About |
I am a professional instrumental music teacher offering private tuition in guitar, ukulele, bass guitar, and tres cubano. I hold a First Class Honours Bachelor of Music (BMus) degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, one of the UK’s leading conservatoires, where I received rigorous training in performance, musicianship, and music education. My academic background, combined with extensive practical experience, allows me to support students with a wide range of musical interests and goals in a structured, informed, and encouraging manner.
I teach students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners taking their first steps into music to more advanced players seeking to refine their technique, broaden their stylistic awareness, or prepare for graded examinations. Lessons are available both in person and online, allowing flexibility for students with different schedules and learning preferences. I place a strong emphasis on creating a supportive learning environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence in their playing.
My teaching covers all musical styles, including classical, rock, pop, jazz, blues, folk, and contemporary genres, as well as specialist styles relevant to the tres cubano and Latin music traditions. While stylistic exploration is encouraged, lessons are always grounded in solid fundamentals. These include posture and technique, tone production, rhythm and timing, fretboard knowledge, harmony, and ear training. Where appropriate, I also integrate music theory and notation in a clear, practical way, ensuring students understand not only what to play, but why it works musically.
For students who wish to follow a formal pathway, I offer structured preparation for Rockschool, Trinity (Rock & Pop and Classical), and ABRSM Classical graded examinations. I am familiar with the technical requirements, repertoire expectations, and marking criteria of each syllabus, and I tailor lessons accordingly to ensure students are well prepared and confident on exam day. At the same time, I recognise that not every student’s goal is exam-based, and I am equally happy to support learners who wish to play purely for enjoyment, personal development, or creative expression.
My approach to teaching is adaptable and student-centred. I believe that effective tuition balances clear structure with flexibility, allowing lessons to respond to individual interests, strengths, and challenges. Some students benefit most from a carefully planned technical progression, while others thrive when lessons are built around songs, improvisation, or creative projects. In all cases, I aim to develop independent musicianship, helping students build the skills and understanding needed to practise effectively and continue improving beyond the lesson itself.
Above all, my goal is to help students develop a lasting and meaningful relationship with music. Whether a student is working towards formal qualifications, expanding their stylistic range, or simply learning to play for pleasure, I provide professional, reliable, and thoughtful tuition tailored to their needs. I welcome enquiries from students of all ages who are looking for high-quality instrumental lessons delivered with clarity, patience, and musical integrity.
