About

About

My name is Gregg Eckersen and I was born in Daytona Beach and have been a lifelong resident of this area. Like most drummers, my interest in drums began when I was a small child. I would collect empty coffee cans and gather a couple of sticks from the yard and “make a joyful noise”.

When I was in elementary school I joined the school band and learned to play the snare drum and other percussion instruments. At the age of 14, I joined my first “garage band”. Our first gig was at “Skateland”. We received $5.00 per man. Since then I have been in countless numbers of bands and played at many different venues in and around the Daytona area.

In 2005 I started the Daytona chapter of “Drummers for Jesus” of which I am still the chapter leader.

I started taking lessons from Gregg about two years ago. I’ve learned more and play better than I ever though was possible in this time. Gregg is a very patient teacher and uses a variety of materials in his lessons. I was, at first, intimidated by all I didn’t know, but the Drumsense program presents drumming in very logical, step-by-step manner. I’m glad I met Gregg first when I decided to give drumming a try.

My son started taking lessons with Mr Eckerson over the summer of 2012 in preparation for the 6th-grade band. His experience with his band teacher was, for lack of better words, horrible. Mr Eckerson made sure that Jake’s confidence wasn’t shattered and that his desire to learn was still intact. Jake is still getting lessons and is loving learning his craft. Without Mr Eckerson Jake most definitely would have given up on even wanting to learn. I see his confidence getting stronger every day and I don’t even mind the noise coming from his bedroom!

My son has been taking drum lesson from Gregg for 4.5 years. Not only is my son the 1st chair percussion in his Middle School Advanced Band and also the Jazz Band but he made The 2013 Middle School Volusia All-County Band. None of this would have been possible without taking lessons from Gregg!
