Welcome to
My name is Anthony and I am an experienced piano tutor, having taught students of various levels of experience and different ages during the last four years. Whether your goal is to take exams or just play for yourself and your friends or family, I would be very happy to help!
I have been teaching piano for years now, beginners and intermediate students. I prepared some of them for ABRSM and Trinity College London exams, with very good results – merit or distinction.
I am passionate about all kinds of music and instruments and I enjoy teaching different genres.

I teach students of all ages, through individually tailored lessons. Both beginners and more experienced students are welcome. We will talk about previous experience in music and student's expectations in the first lesson to see where to start from and what to focus on most.
I also prepare students for piano exams. So far, I have had experience with preparation for ABRSM and Trinity College London piano exams (along with the supporting tests such as aural tests, musical knowledge, etc.). Of course, students who want to learn the piano without taking exams are very welcome too.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginner and intermediate players to learn with me. My lessons are built around your ability level.
In my personal view, the teaching of Music is paramount across primary and secondary schools. Over the period of lockdown, I have continued in giving online Music Theory lessons via Zoom to students and pupils in various parts of the UK.
I currently privately teach syllabi from GCSE (AQA/Edexcel), International Baccalaureate, or EDUQAS examinations.
In the virtual age that we currently live due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the method and delivery of teaching have significantly changed. In offering my services, I would provide a professional, safe, and supportive environment of learning where pupils and students will get the best out of learning the Music curriculum online.
When it comes to teaching and delivering the subject, I am methodical, supportive, passionate, and enthusiastic in my teaching. I believe it is crucial that students and pupils receive good music education, and whilst not all things are possible and the face-to-face teaching due to Covid-19, I am determined to give the best music education I can despite the circumstances and deliver as music as the same classroom experience online.
Beginner students, regardless of their age, can expect to gain all the basic knowledge they need to be able to learn and play easy music on their own. We will start by getting to know the instrument and how it works (ideally by opening one and taking a look inside!) and how to sit comfortably at the piano. Then, we will play some exercises to place the fingers in the proper position and play a few chords and songs by ear to find out how it feels to actually play something that sounds nice. After that, we will start reading music and working on aural skills (and possibly little music theory, depending on student's interest).
Intermediate students can tell me and show me what they already know in our first lesson. We will talk about their experience with piano so far and if there is anything specific they would like to learn. Once that is done, we will start taking their skills further and possibly, if they haven't played in a while, fill in any gaps in their knowledge of the basics.
Edinburgh has a couple of shops that are dedicated to piano players. Here are the stores I would recommend if you're looking for a specialist.
Red Dog Music, located 1 Grassmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2HY is a modern store which specialises in keyboards, Pianos as well as a whole range of other musical instruments and accessories. If you're looking to pick up your first piano or keyboard, here could be worth a try!
Scayles Music, located 50 St Patrick Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9EZ. Here you can find a large selection of all instruments as well as other accessories such as amplifiers, stools, etc to help you get the comfortable setup that suits you.
I'm an experienced player and performer who can help you improve your playing level and understanding in no time. I have worked with students of all ages in the past and have always offered high quality enjoyable lessons for all of them. I will always try my best to make your learning experience a memorable one. If you have any questions, please send me an email.
[email protected]My lessons are charged at £15 per half hour, £20 per 45 minutes and £25 per hour lesson.
I currently teach all of my lessons located on Marine Drive, Edinburgh, EH4 5EJ, UK.
I teach both children (4+) and adults in a wide range of styles and genres. I have a lot of experience teaching younger students and have created specialised lessons for young learners. I am always more than happy to talk with parents should they have any questions about their child starting lessons with me.
I would recommend taking consistent lessons to enable a student to build their knowledge over time. It is entirely up to you as a student how regularly you would like to take lessons, with my advice to new students that weekly or fortnightly lessons work best.
Please note Piano Lessons Edinburgh operates 24-hour cancellation policy. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged half the price of the lesson.
