Improve Your Technique
As an experienced piano teacher, I believe that learning different playing techniques is key to becoming a confident and versatile musician. I'll guide you through the techniques that suit your goals and preferred musical styles. Here are some of the fundamental techniques you'll develop in our sessions:
Hand Position and Finger Strength
Proper hand positioning is the foundation of piano education. As your piano teacher, I’ll show you how to maintain a relaxed yet precise posture while playing, allowing for fluid movement across the keys. Building finger strength and dexterity is just as important, especially for beginners, and I incorporate a range of exercises into each lesson to help you progress efficiently.
Dynamics and Expression
One of the joys of playing the piano is the ability to convey emotion through music. Together, At Edinburgh Piano Lessons, we’ll work on mastering dynamics—playing softly, loudly, and everything in between. Learning to add expression to your playing helps bring your performances to life, whether it’s a lively piece or a delicate classical melody.
Pedal Usage
Using the piano’s pedals can seem intimidating at first, but as your piano tutor, I’ll break it down step by step. You’ll learn how to use the sustain pedal effectively to create smooth transitions and rich harmonies, as well as explore how to use the soft pedal and sostenuto for more advanced techniques.
Building Confidence Across Musical Styles
Every student has their own taste in music, and I tailor lessons to match your preferred styles. Whether you dream of playing Chopin, contemporary pop songs, or even incorporating skills from other instruments like violin, I adjust the curriculum to suit your ambitions. My aim as your piano teacher is to ensure that your playing experience is as rewarding as possible.

Every student is unique, and I pride myself on delivering personalised lessons that cater to your individual learning style and aspirations. My lessons focus on building strong foundations and fostering creativity, while ensuring that every session is engaging and rewarding. Whether you dream of playing classical masterpieces or your favorite modern songs, I’m committed to helping you unlock your full potential. Together, we can make your musical ambitions a reality.
