My Mission

Personalised Lessons

I will make every lesson personalised to your tastes and musical preferences to make sure you are always satisfied with your lessons. I like all of my students to learn in a direction that suits them and I really believe that this is key to success when learning anything. If we use music that you enjoy, then we can really make fast progress whilst learning music that keeps you interested in the lessons. I will of course make sure you also have a solid grounding in music theory.

As well as trumpet I can also teach a wide range of instruments including Cornet, French Horn, Trombone & Tuba. If you're interested in learning another instrument then please let me know. I feel that learning a wide range of instruments helps with understanding learners even more and helps me better understand some of the difficulties that come with learning to play an instrument.

All Genres

I have the ability to teach a wide range of genres & will always make sure we aim towards the styles that you enjoy. I think that learning familiar musical styles is very important for initial progress. after you're comfortable with music that is familiar then we can think about branching out into other genres and sub genres that you enjoy listening to.

I teach a wide range of ages however, I would recommend starting no younger than 6 years old. I have a great deal of experience in teaching students from a young age all the way up to adults. It's never too old to start something new so regardless of age, if you want to learn something new like trumpet, I would always say just go for it. It takes a lot of time and practice but can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life.

My Experience as a Teacher

I'm an experienced teacher and performer based in Yonkers. My high points include a stint with the 81st US Army Band, and a national tour with “In The Mood”, a 1940s musical review

Locally, performed the Yonkers Philharmonic, the Westchester Broadway Theater, the Bensen/Scott Orchestra, the Westchester Swing Band, the Virgil Scott Orchestra, the Monarch Brass Quintet and the Bottom Line Tuba Quartet.

I have degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Maryland and have studied with Brian Bowman (US Air Force Band) and Abe Torchinsky (Philadelphia Orchestra).

More About My Lessons

I feel it is important that we try to learn music that is familiar to you. This would include the music that you love and listen to in your own spare time.

As well as teaching from my home studio, I also offer mobile lessons which means I can travel to you so you can learn from your own home. Prices may vary for this option so please let me know if this is something you are interested in.

I have been performing professionally since 1978 and have been teaching private lessons since 1986. In addition, I have taught in music programs in both public and private schools.
