Do I need a PRS licence as a music teacher? (All Teachers)
This question came in from a singing teacher over the weekend:
“I have business insurance but do I need a PRS licence for what I am doing? It’s never crossed my mind to even think of getting this!!!”
My response to this was:
“I have never heard of a music teacher getting a PRS licence, it is a brilliant question and I have never thought about it until you asked it. It seems from the PRS website that as music teacher were are too small fry even to be mentioned, though organisations that provide education such as schools, universities and dance schools are all exempt (https://www.prsformusic.com/licences/playing-music-at-work/charging-policies#12). This would suggest to me that no you do not need a PRS licence – though I do recommend reaching out to a legal professional to confirm that for you.”
If you have any advice, thoughts on whether a PRS licence is required do post below! My thoughts are it is not required?!
