Age of Students (All Teachers)
Hi guys,
I wondered- do you have any upper or lower age limitations when accepting new students? We previously received an enquiry for a three year old to start having private lessons- he has monthly sessions and will be starting grades soon so is doing really well. I have just had another enquiry for a two and a half year old?!! I have certainly never taught this young?… So if anyone has… any tips?
Do you think that two and a half is too young for one-to-one and I should maybe try and start a little group or something for under 4’s? I’m not sure? Any help or experience here greatly appreciated….

Goodness! That age is bizarre… I personally wouldn’t teach that young, I tried a lesson with a 6 year old once and she cried (I wasn’t that bad!) so my limit is 8!
I’m sure other teachers have better experiences than me though and it sounds like one of those teachers is you so well done!

I’ve recently got a request for a 2 year old and the youngest I currently have is 6 and she can barely sit still for a 20 minute lesson! Anything less than that seems a bit ridiculous for one-to-one, no? Haha

Apologies for the late posting, but I just thought I’d chime in!
Six is my current minimum age. Any younger and I’ve found their attention tends to waiver after a short amount of time and you don’t gain any major ground in a lesson.
Saying that though, if you’ve a way to keep a child engaged with the lesson then there’s no reason that three, or even two, would be too young – I’d just make sure things are fun and colourful!
