Welcome to
Hello, my name is David Baker and I have been a professional bassist for many years. I love meeting new learners and I always keep lessons productive and enjoyable.
I can teach a wide range of styles and genres to my students. My current students benefit from my broad understanding of various contemporary styles, and any who may be interested in learning specific genres will certainly find use in my lessons.
My lessons are very student focussed, meaning that I will build my lessons around the genres and styles that you love to listen to as a music lover. We will always work in a direction that you enjoy and want to learn in.

Since I began teaching, I have enjoyed teaching a wonderfully diverse range of students. From children 8 years old and upwards to senior adults with years of playing experience, guiding others in their journey to become well rounded bass players has been an extremely rewarding process for me.
No matter the age or skill level, I always strive to keep students moving forward. Having taught so many different types of learner over the past several years, I have obtained a clear understanding of what it takes to get from beginner level to advanced using efficient and enjoyable processes.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
No matter where you may currently find yourself along your musical path, my lessons offer clear guidance and support for those looking to get ahead.
I have been a professional musician and Educator since graduation from my degree in 2011 from the institute of contemporary music, since that time I have worked with some major label artist including Ella Eyre, John Newman, Clean Bandit, Foxes, OH Wonder, Prep, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Becky Hill, Rationale, JC Stewart etc.
I have played some of the largest and most prestigious venues in the UK, Europe and the US including The Royal Albert Hall, Brixton Academy, Shephards Bush Empire, London KoKo, Manchester Arena, The SSe Hydro, Wembley Arena, Liverpool arena, Red Rocks amphitheatre, Roseland Theatre, Rapids Theatre, Hammersmith Eventim Apollo, Royal Festival Hall, London Palladium etc. David has also Played at some of the following festivals across Europe, Glastonbury festival, Isle of Wight Festival, Sziget Festival, Balaton Sound, Untold Festival, TRNSMT Festival, Parklife Festival, T in the Park, Wireless Festival, Pukkelpop Festival, V Festival, Latitude festival, Camp Bestival, Henley Festival etc.
I have always been a dedicated educator and mentor and have managed to maintain a healthy private teaching practice along with live and studio work, having several early longtime students go on to work professionally within the music industry on high profile gigs themselves. David prides himself on his ability to pass on the things has has learned throughout his extensive career as well as from his time at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and Studying Privately with Some of the greats of the instrument (Paul Westwood, Robin Mullarkey, Rufus Philpot, Joe Hubbard).
My lessons are structured logically, and informed by my years of teaching and performing. Each will aim to keep students busy and progressing steadily, whilst also engaging with their own musical interests.
Though it is important to keep sessions productive, enjoyment is absolutely essential to achieving the best results. Learning any musical instrument should be an exciting process, so I always like to keep lessons relaxed and encouraging for learners!
Each lesson is delivered and planned with the individual student in mind. No two bassists are the same, and so I strongly believe that each lesson's content should reflect age, interests and learning rates of every learner.
For the past several years, video call software has help connect an innumerable number of students and teachers from across the world. Through learning a quick and straight forward procedure to access lessons through Zoom, you too can receive specialist guidance no matter where in the world you may be based.
Setting up Zoom on any device can be completed quickly and easily, and once finished, you will never have to do it again. Upon Zoom's installation, all you need do as a student is simply open a link sent to you via email in order to access lessons.
Some may be apprehensive towards online lessons, especially when it comes to the learning of musical instruments which take great care and focus to progress on. I must say however that between teaching in person and online, there is no difference present in quality of guidance. As long as your internet connection is stable, there are no reasons as to why students cannot receive the full value of my teaching.
If you require any support whatsoever in the setting up, or operation of Zoom outside of lessons, then I am always happy to assist.
I am a highly experienced bass player with both playing and teaching experience, I have enjoyed guiding a great many students, from young beginners to senior bassists. I love nurturing the skills of others and hope to be part of many more musical journeys.
[email protected]My lessons are priced at £40 per 60 minute lesson.
My lessons can be accessed via Zoom; a highly popular video calling technology that is compatible on a huge range of popular devices.
I teach all ages from 8 years old upwards. I have had great success with students from all walks over life and of many different age groups, including many adult beginners just starting out!
I do not require students to attend their lessons each week, however I do recommend that students leave no longer than two weeks between each appointment. This is simply to keep fingers and minds exercised and developing steadily from lesson to lesson.
Sometimes life throws us surprises, so I completely understand if you must cancel an agreed time slot. However, I do ask students to abide by my 24 hour cancellation policy, which simply means that you must inform me of a postponement or cancellation 24 hours or more prior to the lesson itself. If a lesson is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled time then I charge 1/2 the price of the lesson fee.
