Can anyone learn to play the Tenor Horn?
While we can all agree that learning any instrument is difficult, I would say that any instrument, just like learning a language is achievable. Sadly, many students don’t realise the level of practice and effort it takes to learn an instrument like the Tenor Horn so it is compulsory that you realise this early on. Whether you learn for fun or more seriously, it can take a long time to hit the levels you want to achieve and this is by no way easy but with a great teacher to push you in the right direction it can be. Once you get in a routine it becomes really easy to hit the heights that you want to.
It takes a lot of time and dedication to learn an instrument like this. It helps to have a clear playing goal in mind when you first start to learn. From there, your teacher can help you find new aspects of your playing to improve. The most effective way of learning is by far a combination of weekly lessons and home practice and this really is something that anyone can do and anyone can achieve. For sure, everyone learns at different paces and this is something that all teachers recognise. Sometimes you have to start with the more boring side of learning to progress but this is something that everyone had to do at one point, your teacher included.
You can learn so much more in terms of theory, sight reading and learning from an experienced teacher who may have gained a lot of performance, tutoring, recording experience etc, they may have attended a university or college where they learned from highly skilled tutors and lecturers, they might have travelled the world and learned many skills from working with other highly skilled musicians around the globe, they may have several qualifications etc. In all honesty, it doesn’t matter too much if a tutor doesn’t have all the qualifications, if they have the experience, knowledge, skills and passion-you can learn a lot from them and you will soon hit the ground running and won’t have to look back anytime soon.
As a teacher, we have to realise that we were there once also. Because of this, all teachers will always take you through everything step by step at a speed that you can feel comfortable with and enjoy at the same time. If you ever have any questions about learning, make sure you ask. All teachers want the best for you and this will always be reflected in their teaching style.
Our teachers will always take time to write a lesson plan that works for you and helps you learn in a direction that you can feel comfortable with. Learning an instrument isn’t easy but with the right teacher you can definitely learn in a direction that you enjoy. If you want to learn songs or want to learn towards exams we are confident you’ll find a teacher that fits you and your learning style.
If you are a young learner or a more advanced player then also please get in touch. All lessons are built around the students’ needs. If you are a parent looking for a teacher then please check each teacher’s profile to see their experience and whether they offer lessons for children and in most cases they probably will and will make a course that suits a young learner.
