Hi, I’m William (20), I’m Swedish-Ecuadorian and I’ve been teaching guitar, bass and drums in 4 different countries over the past 5 years. My specialities include teaching: songwriting, improvisation, key theory and listening techniques to play with others, on electric/acoustic guitar, drums and bass. Additionally, I self-produce my own music for Spotify and do produce for others in my spare time. I’m completely self-taught and have been playing guitar and bass since I was 12, and drums and piano since I was 8.

My guitar playing has been heavily influenced by the skills I’ve applied from the other instruments I play, therefore I have a versatile array of styles that I comfortably and confidently teach. Artistically, it has been influenced mainly by Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Frank Zappa, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi, Zakk Wylde and Dimebag Darrell among others. Therefore, I am able to extensively and intricately teach my students various genres such as blues, rock, funk, metal, pop, RNB, but also Non-Western genres such as Latin, Indian, and Tuvan (if you are interested).

I have been teaching guitar and drums in Sweden, South Korea, USA and now York as a freelance tutor. I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people who enjoy and are interested in music, and I think it is crucial for me to tune into my students’ abilities, aspirations and goals within their instrument. I think everyone has an innate ability to understand music at some level, and that it can be trained in various ways to do it better. Therefore, I apply my own learning philosophy to my students: to teach them how to fish! I can teach you specific songs that you want to learn, which is great for any beginner or experienced player wanting to take the next step of improvement. But if I can teach you how to learn and teach yourself, by showing you what to listen and look for, then you can stop paying for teachers like me and grow your own musical abilities independently! After all, isn’t being able to do it yourself so much more rewarding?

Music Qualifications & Achievements:

My proudest musical achievement is having written, played all the instruments, recorded, and produced my own debut album and got it on Spotify. I’ve recorded my own songs since I was 14, and as of writing this will be releasing my second self-produced album in 2 weeks!

I’ve studied Higher Level Music in the International Baccalaureate Program at the British International School of Houston and had workshops with drummers like Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Dead Daisies), and Ulrich Zeppinen (Rebel Road). In my 8 years of playing, I’ve also worked extensively with a multitude of local bands, 4 of which are here in York, playing gigs when available and time allows.
