About

About

My name is Vishnu Vijayan and I am a passionate music educator with a profound commitment to nurturing young minds through the power of music. With a unique blend of academic expertise and practical experience, I strive to create a learning environment that is inclusive, child-centric, and infused with the wonders of alternative education.

My journey in the realm of music education began at the prestigious Shankar Mahadevan Academy in Bangalore, India, where I had the privilege of serving as a Music Instructor. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to impart the intricacies of melody and rhythm to eager learners. One of my proudest accomplishments was designing and implementing a curriculum for Indian Music, with a special focus on rhythm.

Throughout my career, I have been devoted to promoting inclusive education. At SOAS, University of London, where I am currently pursuing my dual MA in Music and Education, I have engaged in transformative activities such as curriculum and pedagogy, thematic education, and child-centric approaches. My passion for alternative education has led me to explore innovative teaching methodologies that cater to the unique learning needs of each student, ensuring a personalized and meaningful educational experience.

As an educator, I believe that music has the power to touch lives and bridge gaps. It was an enriching experience to mentor children with special needs, including those with ADHD and Cerebral Palsy, guiding them towards music appreciation. Witnessing the transformative effects of music on these young souls reinforced my belief in the magic of rhythm and melody.

One of my most memorable experiences was heading the Rhythm Department at a School in India. During my time there, I had the privilege of teaching primary school children from diverse backgrounds about table-drums, collaborating with the Global Music Academy to inspire the next generation of musicians.

In my quest for continuous growth and refinement, I have been trained in the Farrukhabad Gharana style of playing Tabla, with exposures to Ajrada, Delhi, and Punjab Gharana styles. My pursuit of excellence in Tabla continues under the esteemed guidance of Vidwan Adarsh Shenoy, a disciple of the legendary Pandit Yogesh Samsi.

Amidst the ever-changing landscape of education, I have adapted to the virtual realm with ease. I am well-versed in leveraging online platforms and technology to create engaging and interactive learning experiences for my students. In my online classes, I seek to foster a sense of community, where students can connect with one another, share their passions, and collectively celebrate the beauty of music.

In conclusion, my journey as a music educator has been shaped by a deep love for music and an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on young minds. Through my experiences at SOAS, University of London, Shankar Mahadevan Academy, and beyond, I have honed my skills in curriculum design, pedagogy, and inclusive education. As I continue to explore new horizons and empower students with the gift of music, I am excited to bring my expertise to online classes, touching the lives of learners from all walks of life, and instilling in them a lifelong appreciation for the art of music.
