About

About

I am a Sitar player and have been studying this instrument intensely since a young age. I now have a variety of students of various levels. Please get in touch if interested, you do not need to own a Sitar when starting – I have a spare student Sitar for use during lessons.

My sitar teaching focuses on accessibility and detail. I have taught a number of beginners who have had no experience in any music before, and on the other end have taught experienced composers. Whatever your ability, I will tailor the teaching experience to you and your preferences. I teach one to one lessons at home. There are many pathways one can take in Indian music, and we can focus on the elements that interest you most, as well as of course the fundamentals.

It is worth noting that I am able to teach Indian Classical Music to people proficient in other instruments as well. I will teach from the Sitar, which is can be in D, C# or C. Provided you have a good understanding of your instrument, we will be able to transfer the Indian Classical theory and practice to that instrument.

I am also a composer, producer and performer. I have been studying Sitar and Indian Classical Music since I was fourteen, and before that was a student of Western Classical and Jazz Piano.

Sitar lessons with Tommy not only make you love the sitar but give you the creativity to play with confidence at your own pace. Tommy helped me as a beginner to understand the instrument and then the beauty of its music. You progress in each lesson, you feel open to share areas you want to know more about and also Tommy adds cool ways of playing a very unique instrument to help you develop your own style. I love every lesson thanks to Tommy.

I connected with Tommy during Covid for sitar lessons. He starts from posture, positioning and ensures you are holding the instrument correctly. He is detailed and will help you step by step to play a piece and will accompany you by either playing his sitar or the tabla.

His approach is relaxed and he will go through previous pieces and introduce new ones. He listens to your feedback and is extremely patient. A great teacher and also very talented
