Teacher Info

Along with the versatility to teach all brass instruments and music theory to an advanced standard, I have a range of teaching experience encompassing all abilities and ages. My current work includes teaching brass and theory students at Weaverham High School in Cheshire, as well as directing their school concert band.

In addition to my further brass teaching positions with Tameside Tutors and Rubato Music Centre, I also direct Eccles Youth Band, a project I began developing in October 2017 as a then established member of Eccles Borough Band to promote the learning of brass instruments in the area.

Their first performance followed in April 2018, sharing the stage with the senior band at Eccles Town Hall, with both pieces performed being arrangements I had made to suit the abilities of the individual players of the ensemble. I have also worked with the renowned Foden’s Youth Band and twice as a guest tutor for the RNCM Young Middle Brass scheme in 2019, leading an interactive group warm-up for the 15-20 pupils involved and conducting the ensemble in rehearsals and subsequent concerts.

After a half-price first lesson, I will quickly tailor sessions to best suit each student’s character, needs and interests, putting their enjoyment at the centre of every lesson with a lively and enthusiastic approach. Whether they would like to solely pursue graded exams or simply play for fun, I will always aim to achieve a wider, lasting musical understanding that benefits the student’s overall development. In addition to my euphonium, for trombone students, I also own a trombone, which I find is often helpful for slide demonstrations in specific lessons.

I have recently graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music, having completed an intensive 3 year (normally 4 years) Bachelor of Music with Honours degree and an intensive 1 year (normally 2 years) Master of Music degree. This included an instrumental teaching elective, involving further experience as a brass teacher at a nearby secondary school, sessions on safeguarding, curriculum design, and a variety of teaching techniques, culminating in a comprehensive final portfolio and an assessment of my teaching performance that ultimately resulted as my highest contribution towards my attaining of an overall Distinction.

Since beginning my studies at the RNCM, I have also performed across the UK and Europe, competing with its finest young brass players in the process and sharing the stage with several of its most renowned ensembles. In March 2019, I was one of four finalists in the BrassPass.tv Young Brass Award, with the event, live-streamed worldwide and accompanied by the then National Champion Band of Great Britain, Foden’s Band. I was also selected as the only UK semi-finalist in the 2018 EBBA European Soloist Competition, held in Utrecht. I am currently the principal euphonium of Rainford Band, having previously performed as principal euphonium of Eccles Borough Band, RNCM Brass Band, European Youth Brass Band 2017, and the National Youth Brass Band and Wind Orchestra of Wales.

I can offer lessons online, at your home (at a very small cost depending on your location), or a mixture of both – some aspects are often better to teach in person!

I hold a valid Enhanced DBS certificate and membership of the ISM.
