I am a friendly piano teacher located in Barry. I have a Masters in music from the University of Nottingham and a Grade 8 in piano. I am DBS checked and currently teach a wide range of ages, from young children to adults. All my students have a 100% pass rate in piano, GCSE and A level exams, achieving exceptional grades.

From classical to jazz, film music to pop, my lessons are fun and informative, incorporating music theory, history and styles. Age-appropriate musical games, quizzes, composition and performance practice are featured as part of my lessons which encourage a love of music and musical learning. Each lesson is tailored around the individual student to ensure that you get the most out of your lessons and achieve your goals. I am experienced in teaching syllabuses for both the ABRSM and Trinity exam boards, and I also provide tuition in helping achieve outstanding results in music theory and performance exams with the WJEC exam board.

Whether you are a total beginner who is looking to play for fun or someone who wants to develop their musical qualifications and progress their musical career, my experience, knowledge and enthusiasm will help develop your skillset and build your pianistic portfolio. I have a wide range of music available for you to learn, including Chopin, Debussy, Einaudi, Bach, John Williams…and even Taylor Swift and High School Musical! However, I am more than happy for you to bring along any piece of music that you’re interested in learning and we will work through it together.

Beyond playing the notes written on the page, my teaching will help you to learn how to make a piece of music your own. We will focus on articulation, dynamics, pedalling, stylistic features, musical terminology, tempo, character and touch, so that your playing adopts a well-rounded and professional musical quality.

If my schedule allows it, I am willing to travel to your house if you would prefer to be taught in your own home, but please be aware that I charge an additional fee for this, depending on the distance you require me to travel. If you would prefer to be taught in my home, please be aware that I own a Labradoodle called Mitya (named after the Russian composer, Shostakovich). He is one years old and extremely friendly, but if you are afraid of dogs, please let me know in advance so that I can make sure he is kept in another room! In terms of availability, weekday evenings are best, however, I do have limited availability on some weekday mornings and during the day.
