Teacher Info
I’ve been a musician, ever since I picked up an old boxwood clarinet at the tender age of 6 and started playing a tune on it. I played in orchestras and wind bands, and by the time I was 14, I had passed my Grade 8 Associated Board practical exam.
When I left school, I discovered the saxophone and fell in love with the sound, so I bought one and began playing in a folk-rock band. From here on, I played in a variety of bands; jazz, funk, comedy, folk and pop – I found I liked the variety. I also passed my Grade 8 Jazz practical exam with honours in 1999. I also started playing the flute in a folk band and discovered I love playing this instrument too.
I began peripatetic teaching in schools back in 2000 and have been doing this on and off in a part-time capacity ever since and many of my pupils have passed practical and theory grade exams. I have also had many private pupils along the way. I have now started online tutoring, a new thing for me, but I have found it to be fun and effective. I am based in Suffolk, near Ipswich if anyone prefers in person.

Jo has been helping me for around seven months now.
She is very patient and kind, and I always feel better at the end of the lesson than I did at the start – she stops me being unnecessarily hard on myself, and we can always find something to laugh at.
Really enjoy the support.
The best teacher Miss Joanne!!!
Jo is lovely and so patient with my slow sight reading. I’m learning a lot from her as well as saxophone maintenance.
My son is very happy with Joanna, he has 2 lessons a week and is always keen to join her online – which is great considering he’s a teenager!. He practises in between lessons and has improved greatly since Joanna has been tutoring him.
Rest assured, Joanna’s method of teaching is relaxed, comfortable and easy to follow, even for one ‘not’ renowned as being a quick study…! Plenty of support and encouragement, Joanna, the perfect fit for the absolute novice and I suspect equally so for experienced musicians looking to improve…
This is my first step into the magical world of music making. Going forward I have absolute confidence Joanna will quickly turn my cat terrifying screeches into the gift of recognizable, real music…
