Hello! My name is James and I’ve recently graduated with a BA Hons in Music from the University of Southampton with a 2:1, where I study electric, acoustic and classical guitar.

My experience with the guitar goes back over ten years to when I was first inspired by guitarists like Slash and Angus Young of ACDC because I thought guitar was the coolest thing ever! I played consistently throughout my teens taking lessons and playing in bands with my friends. My teachers took me through some Rockschool grade exams to give some structure to my learning, but my development was guided by my own musical interests.

After sixth-form, I spent a year at BIMM Brighton studying guitar and popular music, while more importantly immersing myself in the Brighton music scene developing my ability as a performing musician in a funk band and playing in venues including Concorde 2, The Old Market and The Latest Music Bar. Around this time, I developed an interest in jazz and classical guitar after attending a summer jazz course at the Guildhall School in London and studying with a local classical guitarist.

My university degree gave me a holistic understanding of music with or without the guitar! I enjoy learning about all styles of music and identifying what makes them unique.

I get great pleasure from sharing what I love about music and I have some experience teaching guitar at my local primary school as well as one-to-one lessons from home.

During my time at University, I have enjoyed performing at venues such as Turner Sims Concert Hall, The Brook and The Loft.

My satisfaction from teaching music comes from seeing students progress and learn about things they were once confused about. Everyone, even teachers, are students of music and I’m always learning about music through teaching.

I teach my lessons from a teaching space located on Dartmouth Road, London, NW2 4E4. My full teaching address will be provided upon your first lesson booking.
