Guitar & Songwriting Teacher in Leeds
Email: [email protected]
My name is Ed and I am a professional guitar player and songwriter based in Kirkstall, Leeds. I teach guitar to all ages and abilities and work with students to develop both their technical ability and their creative ideas. I cover most genres with a particular focus on Jazz, Blues, Rock and Pop.
I started playing the guitar as a teenager and went on to continue my studies at Leeds College of Music where I received both a Degree and a Masters Degree. I received jazz guitar tuition throughout my university education from accomplished tutors including Jamie Taylor and Ulrich Elbracht and have gone on to play jazz guitar professionally for a number of artists and groups as well as having weekly residencies at the Domino Club and Sela Bar. I have played jazz guitar alongside artists including John Surman and Jean Toussaint at prestigious events such as the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Aside from working as a jazz musician, I have played the guitar at a very high professional level for both function and commercial bands as well as in original rock, pop, soul and funk bands. Through doing this I have played for large audiences at venues and festivals including Boomtown, The Hootananny (Brixton), The ICC (Birmingham) and many others. Music I have written, produced and played the guitar on has also been featured on radio stations such as BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, Rock Current and many local and regional stations.

Ed is one of the most competent musicians I’ve met; someone who is adaptable and authentic across all genres thrown at him. He’s incredibly knowledgable in music theory and music production, while also being boundlessly creative. If you’re looking to improve your technical proficiency, deepen your theoretical understanding and/or to push yourself creatively, I’d recommend Ed Allen as a teacher.
